As explained by Boruto in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 12, the Thorn Soul Bulb is an entity that will help him save his master Sasuke Uchiha who was turned into a tree.

While the protagonist did not disclose his source of information, as evident from the manga chapter, it was none other than the Jiraiya clone Kashin Koji. According to what he said to Boruto, through their transmission through Boruto's toad, Kashin Koji had seen Thorn Soul Bulb before and thought of it as a very important entity.

Later, the manga also saw God Tree Jura retrieve Hidari's Thorn Soul Bulb by using some jutsu that allowed him to attract objects toward himself. Considering that he has the Rinnegan, it could be the Banshō Ten'in, also known as Universal Pull, which was once showcased by Pain in Naruto.

The sheer fact that Jura retrieved the Thorn Soul Bulb immediately and considered Boruto a threat just due to his knowledge-- about the same, proves that the entity is of utmost importance to the God Trees.

As for the clues left by Boruto's explanation of the Thorn Soul Bulb, it seems like the fruit-like entity is what stores and adapts the chakra of the person a God Tree was based on. For example, the Thorn Soul Bulb that Boruto and company had obtained in the previous chapter, must be storing Sasuke Uchiha's chakra so that its God Tree could take on the form of Hidari.

With the Thorn Soul Bulb gone and no means to heal the God Tree's body, there was a likely chance that the previous chapter could have been the final time fans saw Hidari. Unfortunately, with Jura retrieving Hidari's Thorn Soul Bulb, fans could likely see the Sasuke God Tree clone make a return in the upcoming chapters.

In any case, the Thorn Soul Bulbs seem like a very important entity for both destroying a God Tree and saving the person trapped in a tree. Thus, the manga will likely explore the topic further in the future. But before that, fans may want to know how and where Kashin Koji must have seen the entity before.
