Nezuko Kamado from the Demon Slayer series is one of the most beloved characters, and she has shown impeccable grit and tenacity during the series. She is Tanjiro Kamado’s sister who became a demon because of Muzan. Muzan tracked down the Kamado family owing to their potential link to the Breath of the Sun and killed the entire family while sparing one of them.
Nezuko, despite being a demon, refused to attack to attack Tanjiro Kamado and even protected him from Giyu Tomioka. This was strange behavior, and it stopped Giyu from attacking her. Giyu, the Water Hashira, sent Tanjiro and Nezuko to Sakonji Urokodaki.
He was the former Water Hashira who took Giyu under his wings. However, he did something to Nezuko that stopped her from harming other human beings. The question that fans have is this - what did Sakonji Urokodaki do to Nezuko? Sakonji Urokodaki performed hypnosis to rewire her thinking.
Demon Slayer: What Urokodaki did to Nezuko, explained
What did Urokodaki do to Nezuko Kamado? As stated earlier, Sakonji Urokodaki performed hypnosis on Nezuko while Tanjiro trained for the Final Selection. During these few months, Nezuko was in a slumber the entire time, allowing Urokodaki to rewire Nezuko’s thinking.
He continuously reinforced a particular stream of thought for months until Tanjiro completed his training and cleared his Final Selection. Just when Tanjiro returned to Urokodaki's home, his sister welcomed him and the two never looked back.
How his hypnosis allowed her to live and travel with Tanjiro
Urokodaki was an exceptionally smart man, which is seen in the way he helped Nezuko. He realized that this was a rare case and saw the good in her. He knew that if the siblings were persistent enough, Nezuko could become a human being once again.
In the meantime, he wanted to ensure that Nezuko didn’t hurt any human being. If she did, both Urokodaki and Giyu Tomioka would take their lives to atone for their mistakes. Urokodaki knew that Nezuko had other siblings when her family was alive. His hypnosis essentially instructed Nezuko to look at every single human being as someone she knew from her family. Hence, Nezuko never harmed human beings in the series.
Since she didn’t consume human flesh, the only way to replenish her energy was to take extremely long naps. However, there was a close call in the Entertainment District arc. This was when Nezuko underwent a new transformation that enhanced her strength and combat abilities greatly.
However, she also went berserk and nearly killed a human being. Tanjiro Kamado’s last-minute intervention saved an innocent human being and the lives of Urokodaki and Giyu Tomioka.
