Yukinobu Tatsu's Dandadan boasts a chaotic mix of supernatural action and heartfelt emotion that has captivated readers. Not only that, swoon-worthy relationships between its characters also form a considerable part of the series' charm. One such character whose emotions have caught fans' attention is the recently introduced (anime) Aira Shiratori.

The pink-haired girl's strong-willed and impulsive nature masks her softer side. Early on, the story showcases who her heart beats for as her feelings surface, adding depth to her character arc. Per the Dandadan storyline, Aira has developed a crush on Ken Takakura, aka Okarun. Her feelings towards the quirky protagonist are evident through her subtle actions and overall demeanor.

Though she might appear brash, Aira’s encounters with Okarun underscore a more tender side to her character. Such a dynamic adds to the story, layering Aira's character and enriching the series' complex relationships.

As mentioned, Aira Shiratori has a massive crush on Dandadan protagonist Ken Takakura, aka Okarun. Initially, it was not like this, as Aira was a different person. Due to her beauty, she became extremely popular at her school, Kami High. As such, she boasted significant influence over her peers and wasn't afraid to flex her popularity when needed. But all this got to her head, and she became delusional.

Aira then adopted a cruel and narcissistic attitude, often looking down on others. She loved to exploit her looks and charms to attract boys and make them fall head-over-heels for her. Her arrogance knew no bounds; she even used underhand methods if anyone tried to put her in her place. However, her encounter with Acrobatic Silky, which also involved Okarun and Momo Ayase, changed her.

Following that incident, she began crushing on Okarun. This happened when Okarun stated that saving someone in danger came naturally to him. Her feelings materialize subtly (moments of nervousness around him). But as the series progresses, she becomes bolder, making advances and even attempting to kiss him.

In Dandadan, Aira does not hide her affection for Okarun and constantly attempts to make advances on him. But her feelings remain one-sided, as Okarun only has eyes for Momo. Nonetheless, Aira's feelings are a testament to her softer side encased by a tough exterior. This crush deepens her character's emotion and adds to the "romantic" aspect of the series. Her acting on these emotions amidst the unrest reflects her human side and enriches her character arc.

Dandadan's love square explained

Dandadan puts forth a lively and chaotic love square that blends humor and emotional depth into its already-packed story. At the core stand protagonists Okarun and Momo and the romantic tension between them. It is only in chapter 159 that the former voiced his feelings to Momo and made it official from his end.

Okarun and Momo's bond finds its feet in shared experiences, trust, and a genuine appreciation for one another. This makes their dynamic vital to the manga's emotion. However, matters have been spiced up by the introduction of two others, Aira Shiratori and Jin Enjoji, aka Jiji. Aira crushes on Okarun, while Jiji has feelings for Momo.

Aira is drawn in by Okarun's courage, kindness, and selfless nature despite her tough and confident exterior and brash personality. Meanwhile, Jiji was Momo's childhood friend and her first crush. But they soon lost contact and reunited during the Cursed House Arc. He, too, is quite open about his affection for Momo, exhibiting a protective and earnest approach towards her.

But regardless of Aira’s and Jiji’s efforts, Okarun and Momo are only interested in each other. This love/romantic square births humor, tension, and occasional heartache with the characters navigating their tangled emotions. Such requited and unrequited emotions and the characters’ unique personalities make the love square engaging and unpredictable.
