With the craziness of Chainsaw Man, Aki Hayakawa seems like the most normal individual there. Like any regular person, he has a set morning routine. He updates himself with the day's newspaper and prepares to go to work as a Devil Hunter for Public Safety, as one would.
More was revealed about him and his obsession to hunt the Gun Devil, given what it had done to him and millions of others. He seemed quite driven by the fact that he needed to grow more powerful to face this foe one day. Amidst all this, fans began to wonder who his love interest might be. The answer is simple - Makima.
Aki's canon love interest in Chainsaw Man, explained
To put it simply, Aki Hayakawa was in love with Makima. Initially, it seemed like he respected her a lot and would always be prepared to do as she asked. However, as the story progressed, it came to be that Aki actually had a crush on Makima. He also trusted her deeply.
But that feeling was far from reciprocated by Makima. She had a sort of disregard for his feelings, clearly uninterested in him apart from using him as a tool. She, however, did seem to respect Aki's judgment and abilities.
This is why she would prefer to have him, rather than someone else, watch over Denji and Power. However, in reality, he was just another pawn in her overarching scheme concerning Pochita.
Why Aki's love for Makima may not be genuine
As mentioned, Aki had a crush on Makima and was in love with her. But as more was revealed about Makima and her true nature, this love from Aki's end might have been something else. Unknown to many, Makima was actually the Control Devil, embodying the fear of Control/Conquest.
Being what she was, she possessed the ability to control and heavily influence those she viewed as inferior to herself. This control is likely what materialized Aki's feelings towards her. It would also explain why he could never recall his reason for liking her.
Aki's feelings for Himeno, explored
Aki and Himeno's dynamic is something entirely different. Initially, Aki was assigned to Himeno as her partner following the death of her former comrade. At first, she viewed him as a teammate and didn't want him to die, given the nature of their work. She was also the one who introduced him to smoking.
As time passed, the pair worked together and grew close, with Himeno developing feelings for him. She stated that she had a liking for him as he was "cool" and "normal." It is implied that she had a crush on him but not much was revealed about Aki's feelings towards her.
But it can be stated with some certainty that they clearly had some kind of mutual connection beyond just friends or coworkers even if for Himeno it went much deeper than it did for Aki.
