There are a variety of titans in the Attack on Titan anime/manga series. However, there are nine of those who hold special abilities which alter depending on the users who wield the titan powers. The first person to obtain the power of titans was Ymir Fritz, the founding titan. Since Ymir Fritz's death nearly two millennia ago to Eren Yeager's passing, the Eldian people have been carrying on the Nine Titans powers bearing individual names.

Types of Titans

The Founding Titan could transform Subjects of Ymir into Titans by screaming. It could take control of Titans' brains, and change Subjects' bodies and memories. However, this ability was limited to those who had royal blood or were close to a Titan with royal blood. Through paths, it was linked to all Eldian poeple and Titan Subjects.

The Armoured Titan

The Armoured Titan has skin plates covering its entire body. Its skin was armor-like and toughened, except critical movement-related parts. It is capable of hardening its feet and limbs into more pointed claws, which it could use to jump buildings and Walls.

The Attack Titan

The Attack Titan is believed to have battled for freedom for many generations and can see past the memories of both its present and future owners. It never stopped moving forward and struggling for freedom, driven by these memories.

The Beast Titan

The Beast Titan has animal characteristics, in contrast to most other Titans, who continue to have a normal "human" appearance. The Beast Titan can take the physical attributes of many creatures that vary among its inheritors. Beast Titans have included monkeys, birds, crocodiles, elk, bulls, wolves, snakes, rabbits, dinosaurs, okapis, and goats since the rise of the nine titans.

The Cart Titan

The Cart Titan has a quadrupedal shape with incredible endurance and speed. During conflict, the Cart Titan is frequently used to transport troops or supplies in addition to its fighting capabilities. The Cart Titan is also used as a mobile gunnery platform because of its ability to wear harnesses that could bear different weapons.

The Colossus Titan

The Colossus Titan is massive, and it can release huge volumes of steam from its body, much like a blast furnace, but at a slow and steady loss of muscular mass. By manipulating the energy they generated, the Colossus Titan's users can create a variety of effects.

The Female Titan

The Female Titan can easily imitate the characteristics of the other Titans. It can harden certain parts of its skin to enhance its attacking and defensive powers. Additionally, it can also exert some control over Pure Titans by screaming.

The Jaw Titan

The Jaw Titan can break or damage nearly anything with its toughened, razor-sharp teeth and claws. It is reputed to be among the Nine Titans with the fastest speeds due to its small size. The Jaw Titan's jaws and claws have strong biting and crushing power that it could use to its advantage against other Titans and man-made structures.

The War Hammer Titan can create a variety of tools and structures out of its own toughened skin. The user can stay hidden in a tough crystal case and control it remotely over a limited distance using a cable made of Titan flesh.

Pure Titans

These Titans varied in height from 2 to 15 m, and were built heavy. They were all different degrees of deformed but appeared like humans. Their mindlessness was the one thing they had in common. Initially, all nine titans are pure titans after metamorphosis. They gain their exceptional powers after consuming the former wielders of those specific nine titans.

Abnormal Titans

Abnormals are Pure Titans who behave or show abnormal intelligence. Often ignoring individuals in their immediate vicinity, the abnormal titan would charge to more significant areas where they might inflict more harm.

History of the Titans

Originally, all Titans belonged to a race of people known as the Subjects of Ymir. The first Titan was Ymir Fritz, who came in contact with an odd creature in a tree that resembled a spine to become one. After Ymir passed away, Fritz gave his daughters the command to consume her to preserve her power, which divided Ymir's power among her daughters.

Eldia eventually split it into nine parts, known as the Nine Titans. All of Ymir's subjects are connected to her via paths that allow the metamorphosis. Her subjects underwent a nearly immediate metamorphosis upon receiving an injection of Titan spinal fluid.
