The Black Clover series has grown to become one of the most popular modern shonen anime titles. Despite the long breaks, the manga series has put out some quality content, and fans are eagerly waiting for the anime adaptation to catch up.

One of the main reasons for fans’ excitement is the sheer number of powerful antagonists that have made appearances. While mages have been a thorn in the protagonist’s side, there are forces far more powerful that Asta hasn’t encountered in the anime yet.

The manga, though, has introduced these characters, and they have been nothing short of terrifying. Devils are some of the most powerful entities and Beelzebub is one of them.

That raises a question among anime fans - who is Beelzebub? Beelzebub is an exceptionally powerful devil connected to the Tree of Qliphoth.

Disclaimer: This article contains massive spoilers from the manga chapters.

Beelzebub’s origins in Black Clover

Who is Beelzebub? Beelzebub is one of the highest-ranked devils in the series, and among the three that rule the Underworld, Beelzebub is one of them.

The other two rules of the Underworld are Lucifero and Megicula. Before Megicula ruling the Underworld, Astaroth was the devil that was in her place, until this devil disappeared for unknown reasons.

In this animanga series, devils often have a contract with a mage who becomes a host. In Beelzebub’s case, Zenon Zogratis is the host that contains the devil.

He's among the strongest mages in the series and hails from the Spade Kingdom, known for its magical supremacy. Zenon Zogratis is also one of the Dark Triad from the Spade Kingdom. Vanica, Dante and Zenon are the three most powerful mages in their region and therefore, rule the Spade Kingdom.

Beelzebub’s role in the story, explained

In the overarching story, Beelzebub takes on the role of a secondary antagonist.

Despite the entity’s powers, it’s clear that Lucifero is the strongest among the lot. However, Beelzebub is incredibly powerful, and the magical attribute it has can be quite tricky to deal with.

Fans are yet to see Beelzebub’s true powers in the manga, but given the fact that he's one of the three rulers of the Underworld shows that he would be one of the toughest opponents that any mage would have faced in their lifetime.

That coupled with the fact that he resides in Zenon would make it near impossible to defeat.

So far in the manga, the character hasn’t received much screen time, so we don't know the true extent of his powers.

However, the magic attribute has been revealed. Beelzebub has the ability to manipulate space, making him one of the toughest devils in the series. A fraction of the devil’s powers was seen in chapter 238 when Yuno and his comrades were pitted against Zenon.

During this fight, Zenon combined his Bone Magic and Space Magic to corner and destroy Yuno. He was only borrowing about 55 percent of the devil’s powers and this was enough to take down Yuno with little to no difficulty.
