One of the most exciting aspects of Tower of God season 2 has been its expansion in terms of overall focus, introducing new locations, concepts, lore, groups, characters, and more. One such character who has first appeared in recent weeks, as of this article’s writing, is Beta, a member of the Workshop Battle Arc’s titular Workshop group.
However, Beta’s role in the series has been confusing thus far, especially with his latest actions, resulting in many— even anime-only fans— asking who Beta is in Tower of God. Beta is the “brother” of Kang Horyang and Beniamino Cassano, another living Ignition Weapon created by the Workshop, who plays a major role in both the anime and the manhwa.

Beta’s role in Tower of God, explained
While that answers the question of “who is Beta in Tower of God,” it doesn’t quite drive home his role in the story. As anime fans have seen thus far, his primary role in the Workshop Battle Arc has been setting up Bam to become the fuel for the Thorn in FUG’s possession by harvesting his soul.
This was achieved via his first meeting with Bam, as well as his actions in the latest episode, which seemingly trapped Bam with no hope of escape.
However, Beta’s actions go beyond this, and aren’t as successful as they currently seem to be. Beta spends the rest of the Workshop Battle Arc fighting off various Regulars, who both are and are not Bam’s allies, including an exciting fight with Rak Wraithraiser.
Beta eventually fought Viole after making his way to, and injuring, Wangnan Ja, who was summoning Viole via the mechanics of the Workshop Battle’s final contest.
Beta eventually conceded to Viole, blaming him for all the misfortunes in his life, until Sophia Amae, the scientist who created Kang Horyang, Beniamino Cassano, and Beta, intervened. She revealed Viole had nothing to do with his creation, with Beta collapsing shortly thereafter.
He later joined Team Novick at Khun Ran’s request, with their interests aligned in pursuing Cassano. Beta remains with them through the events of the Name Hunt Station, before reuniting with Bam and co.
He later boards the Hell Train with Bam and co, but is largely inactive and staying in Khun’s lighthouse for a majority of the arc. This rings true for a majority of the larger, all-encompassing Hell Train Arc, with Beta’s contributions largely coming in the form of powering up Khun’s lighthouse to be an Enna Core.
He later returns during The Last Station arc and the closing arcs of the Hell Train Arc, but his contributions here aren’t major and he hasn’t been seen since.
Beta’s powers and abilities
As a Living Ignition Weapon, Beta’s power matches and can even exceed that of many E-rank Regulars. He’s shown to be faster than Bam’s reactions during the Workshop Battle Arc, as well as Vespa, a notoriously fast E-rank Regular.
Beta is also strong enough to easily repel both Rak’s physical attacks, and his spear. Beta is also shown to be incredibly intelligent, able to predict Khun’s plans during their time as enemies.
Beta manipulates his Ignition Weapon in two main ways. The first is Partial Ignition: Dionysos, which unlocks Wings and Arms. Each sees a respective pair of large limbs generated from his body, with the base Dionysis sprouting massive feet. His Partial Ignition is Phobos, which creates a giant demon with three holes that each fire three to five Shinsu baangs for a total of 15.
In summation
The answer to Beta is in Tower of God lies in his origins and status as a Living Ignition Weapon. He’s one of the most powerful examples of a Living Ignition Weapon in the series thus far, which is his main importance. However, he also plays a major role in the series by helping Bam’s larger group of allies ascend the Tower in various ways.
