One Piece's Elbaph arc has been shaping up to be one of the most eventful arcs in the series' history. While the initial chapters focused on providing an overview of Elbaph's geography and the populace's current sentiments, chapter 1134 made it clear that the story will be driven by external threats.
Although not many prominent characters have been identified yet, one peculiar giant child named Colon has continued to be a recurring part of the story. Colon first appeared in chapter 1076 without much background. However, recently released chapter 1135 leaks have confirmed his identity as a half-giant, the offspring of Ripley and a currently unknown human pirate.

One Piece: The half-giant Colon and his inspiration
Colon was first introduced in chapter 1076, just before the standoff between Red-Haired Shanks and Captain Kidd. Similar to Luffy's debut, Colon's introduction involved him urging Shanks to let him join his crew. While not much was known about his actual origins at that time, recent revelations from one of the series' earliest chapters clarified that Vicky the Viking, a cartoon from the 1970s era, serves as an inspiration for the entire Elbaph arc.
It has recently become clear that Colon's debut in a bar and his desire to sail the seas are direct references to Vicky from the previously mentioned cartoon series. While Colon's actual nature was not known previously, chapter 1135's alleged leaks have made it clear that Colon is a giant child inspired by the slowly disappearing warrior culture of Elbaph. This aspect of his character contrasts with Vicky, who was a Viking lacking in strength but compensated for it with his intellect.
Colon's origins indicate that he is a half-giant, born of a giant woman and a human man who was apparently as strong as giant warriors. Colon's mother is Ripley, the giant biology teacher revealed in chapter 1134. Given that Ripley is also one of the last warriors Elbaph produced, it is likely that Colon's father is one of the stronger characters in the series.
Elbaph's Giant Warriors are some of the strongest entities in the series. Since there are not many human pirates who can surpass them, it is probable that Colon's father is from the older generation of pirates. There is a theory suggesting that Scopper Gaban is the next Roger pirate waiting for the Straw Hats on Elbaph. It is possible that Colon is Scopper Gaban's offspring.
While there is not much information backing this claim, it is possible due to the recurring pattern of Roger pirates being in relationships with strong characters. This has been seen with Roger and Portgas D. Rogue, Rayleigh with Shakuyaku, and now possibly Gaban with Ripley, one of the last Giant Warriors.
Final thoughts
One Piece chapter 1135 will be officially released on January 3, 2024, and will be available for reading on Shueisha's MANGA Plus platform. Given the recurring appearances of Colon and his mother Ripley, it is possible that Colon will take on a much more impactful role in the story, similar to Tama and Momonosuke from One Piece's previous arcs.
