Despite the anime’s ongoing hiatus and the manga’s switch to quarterly publication, mangaka Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover series remains one of the most popular in the new-gen era. Its lovable characters, memorable protagonists, and enthralling narrative combine to make the series a staple of the manga industry over the last decade.

In fact, the series has introduced so many great villains that some tend to get lost in the shuffle or jumbled in fans’ heads. This has led to the often-asked question “who is Dante in Black Clover?” especially since the antagonist is introduced as one of three villains in a group. Dante Zogratis is an antagonist who is a member of the Dark Triad, ruler of the Spade Kingdom, and a host to Lucifero, the series’ most powerful devil.

Dante’s role in Black Clover

While that answers the question of “who is Dante in Black Clover,” there’s still much more to discuss regarding his role in the series. Dante is not only an antagonist but also one of the most central in the series. His status as a member of the Dark Triad directly influences the narrative, particularly through the impact of his and his group's actions on Yuno Grinberryall’s upbringing.

Dante also plays a major role in Asta’s character growth and development, especially as the man who defeated him and Yami Sukehiro when they teamed up to fight him. His capture of Yami serves as Asta’s primary motivation for training with Nacht Faust to better control his anti-magic powers and heighten his connection with the devil Liebe. While Asta didn’t end up getting revenge on Dante, his role in Asta’s story is nevertheless significant.

Beyond this, Dante mainly serves as the “final boss” of the Spade Kingdom Raid Arc. He plays a role in Lucius Zogratis’ plans, with his Body Magic being one of the four total magics Lucius needed to create life. Additionally, there are some political implications due to Dante being a leader of the Spade Kingdom, such as creating rising tensions with the Heart, Diamond, and Clover Kingdoms.

Dante’s powers and abilities, explained

As mentioned above, Dante’s two main powers in Black Clover are his natural Body Magic and the Gravity Magic he obtained by being Lucifero’s host. Dante’s Body Magic is an inherent attribute that allows him to repair and alter his body at will. This includes distorting his body to grotesque levels without suffering repercussions, as well as forming additional limbs for combative or other purposes.

His Gravity Magic, which technically comes from Lucifero, enables him to manipulate gravity freely. For example, he can weaken gravity to allow himself or objects to levitate before increasing it, causing himself and any other objects to smash down with tremendous force. He can also increase the gravity around a person or material in order to either trap them or create an object, respectively.

Beyond his two magic attributes, Dante is an exceptionally skilled fighter and mage. His sword- and hand-to-hand skills are incredible, as are his overall strength, speed, and endurance. Additionally, he possesses exceptional magic power, largely due to his status as a devil host, based on what fans know as of this article’s writing.
