Chainsaw Man's Devils are a unique concept in all of animanga. The idea of fears materializing into odd creatures that grow stronger the more the concept or thing is feared is both creative and terrifying. Nonetheless, the mind of creator Tatsuki Fujimoto has given us some fascinating Devils, and among them stands the Hell Devil.
As the name suggests, the Hell Devil embodies the fear of Hell. It appears as a centaur-like creature with a featureless face, save for its wide open mouth. Flames engulf its oddly shaped body, and its skin looks to be pulled taut over its frame.
Apart from these details, not much is known of this Devil given its very limited screen time. But even so, here is a close look at the embodiment of the being born of the terror of Hell.

Hell Devil's appearances and role in Chainsaw Man
So far, the Hell Devil has made two appearances in the series. In its first appearance during the International Assassins Arc, Santa Claus exploited the Hell Devil's ability by sacrificing one of her perfect dolls and three children to transport everyone present at the scene to Hell. During this moment, it appeared as a huge hand with six fingers materializing from the sky.
The Hell Devil reappeared in the Control Devil Arc, summoned by Kishibe's Anti-Makima Squad after six of the squad members had their throats slit. They called upon the Hell Devil to kill Makima and send her to Hell. But its time in the spotlight was short-lived, as Chainsaw Man, who had taken full form, made quick work of it. It was later revived in the next bit.
In Chainsaw Man, the Hell Devil is not as powerful as a Primal Devil, but it is still formidable. It draws power from how much people fear Hell, i.e., a social concept instilled in human beings rather than an innate one. Its ability to easily transport entities to Hell makes it fearsome. The way it looks and its abilities exhibit the existential horror and the level of threat characters face, further building on the series' themes of fear and survival in a Devil-infested world.
Hell Devil's powers and abilities, explained
As mentioned, not a lot is known of the Hell Devil. Its limited screen time and few references constitute what has been revealed so far. In terms of abilities, it possesses the usual Devil-like abilities, including the ability to contract with humans for a price and restore itself through the consumption of blood.
So far, the Hell Devil seems to have been contracted with Santa Claus (the ability to send all living beings to Hell within a defined area in exchange for three children and one of her bodies) and the Anti-Makima Squad (their lives in exchange for it materializing physically).
Finally, embodying the fear of Hell itself, the Hell Devil can manifest itself in the form of a giant six-fingered hand. This seems to come through a door in the sky, which directly links to Hell and is one of many doors to that world. As such, this is what allows it to send entities to Hell.
