Kokichi Muta from Jujutsu Kaisen is a fascinating character. Born with severe physical limitations, including a missing right arm, non-functioning legs, and hypersensitive skin, he gained extraordinary abilities through a unique Heavenly Restriction. This granted him exceptional Cursed Technique range and above-average Cursed Energy output.

Interestingly, most of his appearances were somehow linked to Kasumi Miwa. This led to speculation surrounding the relationship they shared. While never being officially confirmed, Kokichi and Miwa shared feelings for each other. However, due to quite unfavorable circumstances, these feelings were never able to materialize and blossom.

Kokichi Muta aka Mechamaru and Kasumi Miwa's relationship in Jujutsu Kaisen has been showcased to be complex and bittersweet. It resonates with the themes of loneliness, admiration, and unspoken emotions. On one side was Kokichi, born with a frail body thanks to Heavenly Restriction. Hence, he used remotely controlled Cursed Corpses (Mechamaru) to interact with the outside world.

Despite his physical limitations, Kokichi Muta longed for a normal life and genuine human connection. Kasumi Miwa, a kind-hearted sorcerer from Kyoto Jujutsu High, captivated Kokichi with her humility, warmth, and admiration for strength.

Kokichi, having grown distrustful due to his hardships, was deeply moved by Miwa's sincerity, which broke through his guarded nature. Through his proxy, Mechamaru, he developed a fondness for Miwa, cherishing her kindness. Miwa, unaware of Mechamaru's true identity, saw him as a reliable and honest ally.

But within, he likely also wanted to see Miwa and reveal his true self to her, something he couldn't do previously.

Final Thoughts

Jujutsu Kaisen's plot proved to be dark and dangerous enough to disallow significant romance from being a theme. Ships like Kokichi-Miwa and Yuta-Maki did exist but never received time in the spotlight to fully blossom into something meaningful. Even so, the undertones were quite evident and through their interactions, the chemistry and tension were undeniable.

But in Kokichi and Miwa's case, the story was more tragic and heartwrenching. Unexpressed feelings and potential which could not be materialized will always be a murmur of regret for the pair of characters. Kokichi's demise was unfortunate, as outside this dynamic, his character had substantial promise and it would undoubtedly be intriguing to see how he would have fared deeper into the story.
