"Who is Saint-Germain in Dandadan?" might be the biggest question that readers up to date with the manga are asking, since this character has created a lot of questions. Whether it's his looks, his origin, or his goals of obtaining supernatural objects, this character might be the most mysterious in the entire franchise as of yet.

Count Saint-Germain is an overarching antagonist of the series, a collector of objects with supernatural elements, and someone who is searching for a grand treasure known as Dandadan. He was originally allied with the Kur and has a connection of sorts with Turbo Granny, making him a driving force in the current events of the manga and perhaps the key to the story's conclusion.

Count Saint-Germain is first introduced at the end of the Kur invasion and during the Onbusuman arc, as he escapes from the Gates of Hell and arrives on Earth. One of his first acts in the series is to enter into contact with Unji Zuma and make a deal with him because of the yokai known as the Fairy-Tale Card, and later quickly gets Okarun's second kintama, so the other young boy can access his own yokai powers.

Afterward, Saint-Germain joins Kami High as the deputy head teacher named "Sanjome," and also becomes the supervisor of the History and Culture Research Club, formed by Momo Ayase and the rest of the party. It is Momo herself who asks him who he is but the man dodges the question and proceeds to emphasize her desire and curiosity to discover the unknown, which seems to reflect on his character and ambitions.

He appears during the end of the Danmanra arc to seize the opportunity that the Fairy-Tale Card yokai has been weakened by the main cast and takes its powers, also mentioning if it knows about Dandadan, which is the first time that the series' name is mentioned. Saint-Germain also has a small role during the current Pygmy Princess arc, with fans believing he was the one who gave Kouki Yukishiro her powers.

Why Saint-Germain is an antagonist, explained

The reason a lot of people question who Saint-Germain is because his role in the series is covered in mystery. However, it is quite clear that he is the overarching antagonist of the story since many of his actions are driven by a selfish desire to collect supernatural objects and powers while putting innocent people's lives at risk in the process.

While he did help the main cast during the climax of the Danmanra arc, that was done out of selfishness since he wanted to gain that yokai's powers. He also seems to have a connection with the Turbo Granny and the latter hates him, which doesn't seem to be a good sign at the moment since fans don't know the backstory of this man as of yet.

Final thoughts

The questions regarding who Saint-Germain is in Dandadan are going to define a lot of the series moving forward. He is one of the few overarching antagonists in the story and seems to have the highest degree of influence and connections in the plot, which means that his actions could lead to the manga's endgame, although that is yet to be seen in the series.
