While the world and cast of mangaka Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece series has always been massive, the post-time-skip section upped this to a new level. One of the characters who demonstrates this in the best way is Stussy, first being introduced in the Whole Cake Island Arc and later shining during the events of the Egghead Arc.

Likewise, many fans often miss out on the backstory she gets during the Egghead Arc for how fast it moves, leaving them asking exactly who is Stussy in One Piece. Stussy is the first-ever successful clone of scientist group MADS, modeled after Miss Buckingham Stussy. She became a World Government agent for CP0 later on while still maintaining loyalty to her creators.

Stussy’s origins and role in One Piece

While the above briefly answers the question of “who is Stussy in One Piece,” it obviously raises significant additional questions likewise. MADS was the name of a lawless scientific research institute led by Dr. Vegapunk. Its members included Caesar Clown, Vinsmoke Judge, Queen, and Buckingham Stussy, hence, Stussy was modeled after her. She was cloned 36 years prior to the current story.

Ten years later, she was absorbed into the World Government along with some of its other members. She was recruited into Cipher Pol as an orphan, eventually becoming a member of CP0 but remaining loyal to Dr. Vegapunk and acting as his spy. She began an undercover mission shortly thereafter to become one of the emperors of the Underworld. This is how she developed a relationship with ex-Yonko Big Mom, as well as Big News Morgans.

Three years before current events, she visited Egghead as Bartholomew Kuma’s final modifications were being made. After learning Kuma would lose his humanity, she asked him if it was better to be a human without a will or a clone with one. Dr. Vegapunk yelled at her to remind her she was human. Likewise, this dilemma has been a core concept of her character, and has driven some of her more memorable actions in the series.

Similarly, the Egghead Arc sees her betray CP0 and finally come over to Dr. Vegapunk’s side publicly. She is especially a key figure here, known for her act of incapacitating Rob Lucci and Kaku. She assists Dr. Vegapunk and the Straw Hats throughout the arc in multiple ways, learning to accept her humanity as the arc progresses. This even culminates in a momentous decision for her, which sees her exercise free will in achieving her desires like a true human would.

Stussy’s powers and abilities

Stussy’s Devil Fruit in One Piece is the Zoan-type Bat-Bat Fruit, also known as the Batto Batto no Mi. She first debuts it while betraying Lucci and Kaku, using its powers to incapacitate them. By drinking a target’s blood rapidly, she can knock her opponents unconscious if she’s able to get close and/or catch them off-guard. This ability is even powerful enough to knock out Kaku, while he’s in his Awakened Devil Fruit form.

Unfortunately, not much else is known about the Fruit. Its hybrid form gives Stussy bat-like wings and fangs, but there are no other major differences in her appearance. As a Zoan-type Fruit, a full bat form does exist, but it hasn’t been seen in the series yet. The anime also shows that the user gains thermal vision from the Fruit.

Beyond this, Stussy excels in spying and espionage as someone who was raised as a CP0 espionage agent from a young age. She has a major influence in the Underworld by nature of her undercover assignment. She possesses incredible strength, being extremely fast and agile to the point where even Rob Lucci had trouble reacting to her. She has also mastered Rokushiki as a CP0 agent, and has the potential to use basic Haki forms.

In summation

The answer to the question of “who is Stussy in One Piece” lies in her origins as a clone of Buckingham Stussy created by MADS. After the group dissolved, she remained loyal to Dr. Vegapunk while becoming a member of CP0 and a significant Underworld figure as part of an undercover assignment. She later betrayed CP0 in the Egghead Arc and proved pivotal in the rest of the arc’s events.
