One of the most beloved characters in mangaka Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan anime and manga series is none other than Vamola, who has yet to appear in season 1 of the former format. It’s unlikely that she will appear, given the adaptation's pace which the first season has had thus far, and the point at which Vamola is first introduced in the manga.

As a result of entering the larger, general fandom via the anime, many anime-only fans are asking who Vamola is in Dandadan, after seeing her discussed online. Vamola is a humanoid alien, initially introduced as the Kaiju Arc’s main antagonist, but eventually becomes friends with, fights alongside, and goes to school with Momo, Okarum, and others.

Vamola’s role in Dandadan, explained

While the aforementioned is a brief answer to the question of who Vamola is in Dandadan, there is a much more detailed answer to be given. As mentioned, she is a humanoid alien, who was rescued as a child by a woman named Banga from the Kur— antagonists of the Space Globalists Arc. The Kur launched an attack on Sumer, with Vamola being deemed the last surviving Sumerian child.

Banga took care of and raised Vamola as she fought the Kur, with Vamola and Banga’s direct group eventually being the last resisting Sumerians left. Banga eventually decides to send Vamola to the Sumerians’ second homeland Earth.

Banga, Vamola, and the others fight their way through the invading army, with Vamola being given an exosuit resembling the Sumerian god, to travel in and fight with, as she’s sent away.

Vamola’s actions upon immediately reaching Earth are unknown, but she eventually runs into Okarun and Momo, kissing the former when first meeting him and exiting her exosuit. She eventually is allowed to stay with Seiko and co at the Seiko residence, attending school with Momo as a transfer student.

The two are responsible for getting the yokai Reiko Kashima involved in the group, running into her on their first day of school together.

Vamola and Momo’s relationship is then strained in Dandadan, just as the Kur begins to invade Earth after detecting a signal from Vamola’s exosuit. She fights the Kur alongside Momo and the others, after making up with and being welcomed by them once again.

Vamola also participates in the later Onbusuman and Danmanra Arcs, as well as the current Pygmy Princess Arc, but her biggest role in the series undoubtedly comes in the Space Globalists Arc.

Vamola’s powers and abilities

With the answer to “who is Vamola in Dandadan” fully answered, it’s worth addressing how she keeps up with Momo, Okarun, and the others. As previously mentioned, she was given a highly advanced exosuit by her adoptive mother, Banga, before they were separated.

The suit is reminiscent of a kaiju, and gives her enhanced strength and durability to a frightening degree. She can also become invisible, as well as increase its size and mass at will.

The suit itself can also replicate clothing, allowing Vamola to wear it constantly without issue. The suit also allows her to enter Empty Space via its Heart-Pounding Hidden Mode, features a heads-up display that analyzes the environment, and features different modes.

The first is an emergency defense system, programmed to fight on the user’s behalf, while the second is Slaughter Mode, which gives the suit a new, ferocious look and a massive size.

Vamola’s role in Dandadan is primarily as the antagonist of the Kaiju Arc, and as a key character during the Space Globalists Arc.

However, she has a role in the series overall as a member of Okarun and Momo’s larger group of friends. Likewise, while her role isn’t as significant as it was in the Kaiju and Space Globalists Arcs, she’s still present in the full series following her debut.
