One of the biggest highlights of Black Clover’s Heart Kingdom Joint Struggle and Spade Kingdom Raid story arcs is the presence of the Dark Triad as fantastic antagonists in both. As a group of incredibly powerful mages and devil hosts in their own right, they constantly push Asta, Yuno, and the rest of the series’ main cast to surpass their limits with each encounter.

However, the three are very different personality wise, with Vanica and Dante Zogratis being much more outgoing than the third Dark Triad member, Zenon Zogratis. Likewise, with the Black Clover manga ending and the anime having been off the air for quite some time, longtime fans are asking “who is Zenon Zogratis” as they struggle to remember the character’s role and more.

Thankfully, there is a very simple answer to the question of “who is Zenon Zogratis in Black Clover.” Zenon Zogratis is a member of the Dark Triad who rules over the Spade Kingdom with siblings and fellow Triads Vanica and Dante, and is also host to the devil Beelzebub, one of the highest-ranking Devils. Likewise, Zenon plays a central role in the series, both as a character himself and as the host of Beelzebub.

Zenon’s story starts when he’s born in the Spade Kingdom as the youngest of the four Zogratis siblings, eventually befriending Allen Fiarain. Like Asta and Yuno, both shared a dream of reaching a specific rank in the Spade Kingdom, training for years to do so. Zenon even rejects the offer of becoming a devil host from Lucius for the sake of his shared dream. However, Zenon eventually sacrifices Allen in order to guarantee a victory against a devil.

This marked a change in Zenon, prompting him to return to his eldest brother Lucius and form a contract with Beelzebub. The Zogratis siblings then stage a coup of the Spade Kingdom, killing Yuno Grinberryall’s father and directly causing the start of Black Clover’s events by nature of Yuno’s subsequent escape. From here, his role in the story fully plays out as fans see, starting with his capture of William Vangeance and the Spade Kingdom Raid arc’s events.

Zenon’s powers and abilities in Black Clover are likewise fitting for a villain of his stature in the series’ narrative. Zenon’s inherent magic attribute is Bone Magic, which allows him to generate and manipulate his own bones as he sees fit. He typically uses them as spears offensively, and releases them in large bunches and tangles to corner enemies with. He can also affect the rate of his bones’ regeneration speed to replace them faster than they’re destroyed while defending.

Zenon can also choose to shape the bones into weapons which he can then wield by hand, such as a sword. His inherent magic attribute also gains new abilities when calling on 100% of his devil Beelzebub’s power. In this state, he’s able to use powerful, swift bone whips which possess even greater attack power and regeneration speed than his normal bones.

Being Beelzebub’s host also means Zenon has access to the incredibly rare Spatial Magic attribute. His version of Spatial Magic revolves around creating spatial cubes which let him control the mana within them, even to the point of negating it (and spells as a result) outright. He’s able to make these cubes in varying sizes and shapes, helping him to adapt to any situation in which he may need them.
