Shojo fans are hoping for A Sign of Affection season 2. Since its first season was released in 2024, fans have been raving about the anime. The series was adapted from the manga of the same name and deals with themes of romance.

The Shojo anime lasted for 12 episodes, and since the first season was concluded, there have been no talks of another season. The first season of A Sign of Affection enjoyed critical and public acclaim with many praising its inclusivity and light-heartedness. The anime is rapidly rising in popularity and deserves a season 2.

A Sign of Affection was one of anime’s biggest hidden gems of 2024, and it was for various reasons. Apart from the fact that it is Shojo, the anime is also heavily centered on romance, and the source material—a manga of the same name—is not popular. The story flew under the radar, but anime enthusiasts who stumbled on the anime realized they fell on a gem.

Before 2024 ran out, the anime attained cult status with fans now asking for A Sign of Affection season 2.

One reason for A Sign of Affection season 2 is the characters. The dynamic between Oushi, Itsuomi, and Yuki has not been explored fully. While Oushi starts A Sign of Affection as Yuki’s childhood and best friend, as the anime progresses, it is clear that he has lingering feelings for her. He disguises these feelings by being overprotective, but his hostility towards Itsuomi is a clear sign of jealousy.

At the end of the anime’s season 1, he acquiesces to the reality of Itsuomi and Yuki’s relationship. He accepts reality, but anime never fully shows what his life would look like without Yuki. A Sign of Affection season 2 needs to dive into that aspect of his character.

A Sign of Affection season 2 also needs to dive properly into the main character's relationships. Apart from Koe no Katachi, there are not many anime that shows the relationship between deaf people and those who are abled. In Koe no Katachi, romance is never hinted at fully, but in A Sign of Affection, it is all about romance.

The first six episodes of A Sign of Affection lead to one of the best confessions in anime history with Itsuomi telling Yuki he loves her in sign language. While this was beautiful, fans need to see how their relationship evolves past the honeymoon phase.

A Sign of Affection season 2 has a rating (as of this writing) of 8.22/10 on Myanimelist, with over 118, 259 users following the series, and on IMDb, it has a rating of 7.8/10, which was done by more than 2000 users.

The rating on these two movie and anime sites is proof that fans love the story, and if season 2 drops today, these fans will view it in their droves. The buck now falls on Ajia-Do Animation Works to give fans that story.

Final thoughts

A Sign of Affection season 2 will change the face of shojo anime if dropped. Apart from a story that celebrates the diversity of love, A Sign of Affection has breathtaking visuals that are reminiscent of a Studio Ghibli film.

A Sign of Affection is a remarkable anime that needs to be spoken about more. While many fans are eagerly awaiting a new season, some have resigned themselves to a fate that they might only be one season.
