The much-awaited sequel to Chugong's masterpiece, Solo Leveling: Ragnarök, followed Sung Jin-Woo's son, Sung Suho, in his journey to uncover his father's legacy and become stronger by facing new, formidable challenges.

However, at the beginning of the series, it is revealed that both Jin-Woo and his wife, Cha Hae-in, have disappeared mysteriously, leaving Suho to continue with his life on his own. This left a lot of fans concerned for the fate of the two beloved characters.

Although the couple's whereabouts had remained a mystery for a long time, it was soon revealed that Sung Jin-Woo was off fighting with the Rulers against the Itarim, i.e., a race of Outer Gods. Meanwhile, Cha Hae-In was trapped inside a dimensional rift for 5 years along with Kaisel, one of Jin-Woo's loyal shadow soldiers.

Right at the beginning of Solo Leveling: Ragnarök, it was revealed that Sung Suho's parents, Sung Jin-Woo and Cha Hae-In, were missing. This was an obvious cause of concern and confusion for many fans, especially since the story of Solo Leveling: Ragnarök started with Suho in high school, a point of time when both of his parents were still a part of the story in the epilogue of the original Solo Leveling series.

Sung Jin-Woo and Cha Hae-In's last appearance in the Solo Leveling webtoon was in chapter 200, the final chapter of the original series. In their final appearance, Jin-Woo and Hae-In flew through the sky atop Kaisel, the shadow of a wyvern Jin-Woo had once slain.

Jin-Woo was seen gifting a necklace to Hae-In for their 16th anniversary, following which he told her to head back home first. As Hae-In headed back with Kaisel, Jin-Woo was seen staring at a dimensional rift that opened up in front of him, presumably preparing to enter it with his shadow soldiers. This was the last time Jin-Woo and Hae-In were seen in the series, especially since they went missing in Solo Leveling: Ragnarök.

While neither has made an appearance yet in the webtoon adaptation of Solo Leveling: Ragnarök, the web novel provided a much-needed explanation for Hae-In's disappearance.

Apparently, right after Hae-In headed back home with Kaisel in chapter 200 of the Solo Leveling webtoon, she got trapped inside a dimensional rift that opened up in front of her, along with Kaisel. This was revealed much later in the story of the Solo Leveling: Ragnarök web novel.

In chapter 121 of the Solo Leveling: Ragnarök web novel, it was stated that although Sung Jin-Woo had instructed Kaisel to take Cha Hae-In and return home safely, neither Kaisel nor Hae-In made it back home. This was because a dimensional rift opened up in front of them all of a sudden, and Kaisel flew inside the rift to ensure Hae-In's safety, especially since she was an ordinary human at the time.

From thereon, both Hae-In and Kaisel were transported to a village of the Ice Elves, where she eventually awakened her powers from her previous life after slaying an Apostle of the Itarim (Outer Gods), a race of gods responsible for creating all of existence.

After the death of the Absolute Being, a member of the Itarim, the rest of the Outer Gods turned their attention to the universe under him to lay claim to the ownerless universe. Jin-Woo engaged in a fierce war against the Outer Gods to protect his world and the universe from them.

While he still hasn't appeared in the web novel, Jin-Woo sent one of his shadow soldiers, Beru, to Earth so he could train Sung Suho and make him powerful enough to become Earth's defender.

Cha Hae-In is yet to return to the Solo Leveling: Ragnarök webtoon. That said, she has already returned in the web novel, where she had a long-awaited reunion with her son, Sung Suho.

That said, it's unclear when she will reappear in the webtoon adaptation. Given the current state of the webtoon, it seems like it will be a long time before it features the highly anticipated return of the fan-favorite character.

Final thoughts

Cha Hae-In and Sung Jin-Woo's absence in Solo Leveling: Ragnarök caused a lot of concern among fans of the series. That said, fans of the webtoon can rest assured that their beloved characters' returns are guaranteed to happen at some point in the story.
