The anticipation surrounding Demon Lord 2099 season 2 has been fever-pitch following the conclusion of the show's first season on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 12 am JST. The finale witnessed Demon Lord Veltol saving Hizuki from Goddess Meldia, who was free from her guilt of granting Gram the Hero the "Everlasting Youth." She realizes Gram doesn't resent her for what she has done.

Eventually, Hizuki acquired the Regalia and helped Veltol find the "Treasure" he was looking for. Under the J.C. Staff's production, the anime has done a fine job of infusing a futuristic setting with supernaturalism. Yet, after the finale's release, the official staff didn't announce a Demon Lord 2099 season 2.

Having said that, there's still a possibility the anime might get renewed for a sequel in the future, based on the positive reactions the series has accumulated from fans. Additionally, there's still enough source material available for another season. Follow along with this article to know why Demon Lord Veltol and his friends could return one more time in Demon Lord 2099 season 2.

Exploring the possibilities of Demon Lord 2099 season 2

Produced by J.C. Staff, Demon Lord 2099 was one of the hidden gems from the Fall 2024 anime line-up. The series centered around the Demon Lord Veltol, who was slain by Gram the Hero in the battle between the Mortals and the Immortals. Since Veltol was immortal, his loyal subordinate, Machina, revived him 500 years later.

However, Veltol discovered the world had changed drastically. The supernatural fantasy series saw Veltol's adventures in a futuristic Japan. Although the series started rather slowly, it nonetheless gained a fanbase. Finally, after airing 12 episodes, the anime ended its run on December 29, 2024. However, neither the J.C. Staff Studio nor the official staff of the anime renewed the series for a Demon Lord 2099 season 2.

Undoubtedly, many fans must have been disheartened by the lack of news for a sequel. However, they would like to know that there's still a possibility the series could return for another run. Multiple factors are taken into consideration before green-lighting a series for a sequel.

The initial response, Blu-ray & DVD sales, production schedule, and the availability of the source material, are some of the basic factors among them. While some sequels are pre-determined (doesn't depend on the Blu-ray & DVD sales), others can take some time to get a renewal.

Thankfully, there's plenty of source material available for the staff to consider green-lightning Demon Lord 2099 season 2. The anime's first installment covered the first two volumes (volume 1: Cyberpunk City Shinjuku and volume 2: Cybermagic City Akihabara) of author Daigo Murasaki and illustrator Kureta's cyberpunk-themed light novel series.

Daigo Murasaki and Kureta's series has released five tankobon volumes thus far. The titles for the remaining three volumes that are yet to be covered are: Paradise Prison City Yokohama (volume 3), Ultimate Defense City Washington (volume 4), and Shibuya the City Where the Demon King Descends (volume 5).

Therefore, the source material the light novel currently has could be enough for a one-cour season with 12-13 episodes. If Daigo Murasaki-san releases another volume, and the production studio sticks to the adaptation's current formula (2 volumes per cour), the series could be extended to three seasons.

It's doubtful for the official staff to change the current approach. Besides the availability of the source material, the series has garnered positive views from fans. Among the many titles released in Fall 2024, Demon Lord 2099 has offered fans a fresh breath of air.

The series has received 7.51/10 average ratings (as of this writing) from anime enthusiasts on MyAnimeList, one of the top-recognized anime forums. Additionally, the series has 79,970 members on the same platform, which goes to show how popular the series has become in a short while.

Having said that, it all comes down to the official staff and the production studio's final decision. Currently, J.C. Staff has many projects pending production. Moreover, the studio's tight schedule forced them to postpone the climax of Danmachi season 5 to Spring 2025.

Additionally, the studio is set to release One Punch Man season 3 in 2025. Therefore, it's unlikely for J.C. Staff to renew Demon Lord 2099 season 2 soon. However, since the series has enough source material, and has ardent fans looking forward to a sequel, they might want to consider renewing it for a season 2.

Conclusion

Demon Lord 2099 season 2 could be fascinating because Demon Lord Veltol, Machina, Hizuki, and others have more adventures and stories to tell. However, it all comes down to the official staff's decision, so fans have to wait patiently for further updates.
