Episode 1 of Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World anime, titled The Boy Forgotten by the World, saw the beginning of Kai Sakura Vento's journey in a "rewritten world" where everyone forgets his existence.

The episode started with a faceoff between Kai and Rinne. The latter was bound by heavy chains and begged for help from the former. On the other hand, Kai was surprised that Rinne, who belonged to a different race, was asking for help from a human. He was even more bewildered at the fact that the history in his current world was not how he remembered it to be and was wondering why no one knew him in this world.

Following this, a flashback sequence takes place, in which the Human Protection Agency is introduced, where Kai is a member. His mission with his comrades was to seal the Demons, Primals, Mythical Beasts, and Spirits in the "Tombs."

These four alternate races once waged war against humanity in the Five Races War, whose story continues to be told even today. The humans ultimately won the war, where the Hero Sid played a central role by leading humanity's forces in battle and defeating several heroes of the other races.

Following the outcome of the great war, humanity enjoyed a prolonged period of peace for a hundred years. Although many people eventually started taking the threat of the other races lightly, Kai was determined to train himself as much as possible.

One day, as Kai was enjoying his everyday life by shopping with his childhood friend, Jeanne, something unexpected happened. The world suddenly started to "rewrite itself" before Kai's eyes, which ultimately left him abandoned in a new world where the alternate races won the Five Races War due to the absence of the Hero Sid.

What's more, Kai's existence was forgotten by almost every human in the world, leaving him alone in a doomed world with no way back to his original life. It was a world where humanity was forced to live underground due to the terror of the other races.

As Kai tried to make sense of this new world, he stumbled upon a sword that had belonged to the Hero Sid. The sword transported him to an unknown place, where he met Rinne for the first time. With this, the episode ended, leaving viewers in anticipation for Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World episode 2.
