Dragon Ball fans have often wondered, "Why is Kefla so powerful?" The answer is deeply rooted in the series' lore, that is, elements such as the Potara fusion and the nature of the Saiyan race. Furthermore, it is worth pointing out that the nature of Kale and Caulifla, the two characters who fused into Kefla, plays a major role in that degree of power.
Kefla made her debut during the Tournament of Power arc in both the manga and anime versions of Dragon Ball Super and quickly became a fan favorite, especially considering that female Saiyans have never been very prominent in the franchise. Therefore, there is a lot to unpack regarding why Kefla is so powerful and how this connects to other elements of the series.

Kale and Caulifa's individual powers explained
Kale and Caulifla are the two Saiyans of Universe 6 who fused to become Kefla, making them the direct source of her power. Their friendship also plays a major role, as it makes their fusion feel more natural and cohesive, which is decisive in these situations in the series.
Individually, Caulifla is seen as a prodigy, as she managed to understand the mechanics of the Super Saiyan quickly and achieved several transformations during the Tournament of Power arc. This means that she could reach a level that took years for the likes of Goku, Vegeta, and even Gohan with ease.
Kale, on the other hand, is modeled after Broly and has a similar knack to go berserk and muscular as she powers up. This means that she can access the same Super Saiyan form as Broly and power up massively, although it has never been stated if she can reach the same level as the Super canon version that was recently introduced.
Fusion methods in Dragon Ball, explained
Fusion is a major element in this series, with several ways for characters to merge into one. The most prominent is the fusion dance, which requires two individuals to do a set of moves and touch their index fingers. They need to be of a similar power level and execute said moves perfectly. If not, the resulting fusion is going to be a flawed one instead of the desired one, which combines their power and knowledge.
Another method is the Potara fusion, which involves earrings that belong to the Kais of each universe. Two individuals can pick up one set of these earrings and put one on the other's opposite ear, causing them to merge into one person. This method provides a higher power multiplier compared to the Fusion Dance. Both types of fusions last thirty minutes.
Why Kefla is so powerful, explained
The Potara fusion is the answer to the question, "Why is Kefla so powerful?" This, combined with the fact that Caulifla and Kale have a lot of innate potential. Kale seems to share Broly's legendary Super Saiyan form, and Caulifla has a natural talent to unlock her Saiyan potential, which means that Kefla is the best of both worlds in that regard.
In the Tournament of Power arc, Kefla faces very strong and capable fighters in both versions of Dragon Ball Super. She loses to Gohan in the manga and Ultra Instinct Goku in the anime, two of the most powerful characters in the series, with decades of fighting experience. Despite this, Kefla gives them a run for their money.
Final thoughts
Kefla is a very powerful character and is the result of a fusion between two of the most naturally gifted Saiyans in Dragon Ball, Kale and Caulifla. Although she only appears once in both the manga and anime, she leaves a strong impression.
