The anticipation surrounding Kimi ni Todoke season 4 has been sky-high since season 3's conclusion on August 1, 2024. While the latest sequel marked the franchise's return after 13 long years, fans are eager to see more of Sawako, Shota, Chizuru, Ayane, and other beloved characters from the romance-drama anime series.

Fans who have read Karuho Shiina's original manga series would know that the story is far from over. While the official staff hasn't green-lit Kimi ni Todoke season 4, there are multiple reasons why another sequel should arrive sooner rather than later.

Aside from the availability of sufficient source material, the series has received positive feedback from fans, encouraging the official staff to consider a season 4. Follow along with this article to learn how Sawako and Shota's love story could be extended in anime.

Exploring the reasons why Kimi ni Todoke season 4 should be green-lit for production

Produced by Production I.G, Kimi ni Todoke returned after 13 years with season 3 on August 1, 2024, on Netflix. The ONA (original net animation) featured five one-hour-length episodes to tell the tale of a familiar high school drama and romance.

From Sawako and Shota's chemistry to Chizuru and Ayane's subplot, the sequel offered everything a Karuho Shiina fan would have wanted. Interestingly, fans have already begun the anticipation for Kimi ni Todoke season 4, even though the official staff has yet to green-lit the sequel.

That said, there are many plausible reasons why the series can return for another season. Firstly, there's enough source material available for Production I.G or any other studio to work on another season.

The latest installment covered chapters 46 to 75 (Vol. 11 to Vol. 18) to produce five one-hour-long episodes. Interestingly, Karuho Shiina's manga has 123 chapters collected in 30 tankobon volumes.

With around 50 more chapters or 12 volumes available for adaptation, source material shouldn't pose a problem for Kimi ni Todoke season 4's production.

Production I.G. can also introduce anime-only sequences if necessary to ensure the production runs smoothly. Moreover, the latest installment's ending teased that Sawako and Shota's story has more to offer.

The narrative is yet to show Sawako Kuronuma, Shota Kazehaya, and others experiencing their final year at high school. As such, from a story's perspective, the series has more to explore. The production house can address those plot points in the sequel.

Other than the source material and narrative reasons, the chances of Kimi ni Todoke season 4 getting actualized depend a lot on the feedback. Fortunately, the sequel has received a grand response from fans, who were eager to see the beloved characters again.

The recently concluded season has garnered 8.65/10 ratings (as of this writing) from fans on MyAnimelist, one of the biggest anime forums. The score speaks volumes about the romance anime's popularity and execution.

Even though the series returned after 13 years, the excitement and craze haven't diminished. As a result, the series' popularity can push the official staff to announce the Kimi ni Todoke season 4's production.
