As evident from the popularity poll results for My Hero Academia, Eijiro Kirishima has been a fan-favorite character since the beginning of the series. However, despite the character's popularity, many fans tend to miss out that he has a scar on his eye.

This is because, despite the scar being everpresent, it is faint, leading fans to miss out on its presence entirely. So, why does Kirishima have a scar on his eye? While many fans may think that Kirishima got the scar while fighting a villain during his Hero Work-Studies or 'Final War Arc,' in reality, he received the mark ages ago. So, how did Kirishima get a scar on his eye?

Origins of Kirishima's Quirk in My Hero Academia

Eijiro Kirishima got his scar when he mistakenly scratched his eye when it manifested for the first time. One day, at the age of three, when Kirishima woke up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, he happened to rub his eye to possibly clear some rheum (eye gunk) out.

Unbeknownst to Kirishima, his Hardening Quirk had manifested for the first time, causing his hand to harden. With the hardened hand, Kirishima mistakenly scratched his right eye, causing a cut and later scar near his eye.

This incident caused young Eijiro Kirishima to hate his Hardening Quirk for hurting him. Nevertheless, despite his dislike for his Quirk, Eijiro Kirishima liked Crimson Riot, a hero with a similar quirk as his own.

Kirishima's Hardening Quirk, explained

Eijiro Kirishima's Hardening Quirk allows him to harden any or all parts of his body. Using the hardened rock-like body, he can withstand most attacks. However, as one could expect, he too has a limit, causing his hardening to slowly dissipate over time.

Fortunately, as time passed, Eijiro learned to refortify his hardened body and improve his durability and strength. Speaking of durability, Kirishima's Hardening Quirk can withstand a wide variety of attacks, including Dabi's flames, Katsuki Bakugo's point-blank explosions, bullets, and Trigger's quirk-enhancing drug-induced shower of blades.

As for his Ultimate Moves, the anime has explored three of them: Red Counter, Unbreakable, and Red Gauntlet. Red Counter is a close-range counter-attack that sees him defend an attack with a hardened body and counter the same with a straight punch.

Unbreakable is Eijiro Kirishima's maximum hardening level, which makes him practically invulnerable to most forms of physical attacks. This move makes his body extremely hard and rugged, a form that can only be maintained for 30 to 40 seconds.

Lastly, Red Gauntlet is a move that sees Kirishima charge at an enemy and hit them with a single strong punch to the gut. The technique deals even more massive damage if Eijiro is in his "Unbreakable" form.

Fortunately, fans will get to see more of Kirishima in the anime's 'Final War Arc.'
