Why My Hero Academia's remarkably short epilogue will be prefect to end the series, explained

The My Hero Academia epilogue is well underway and is bound to conclude the manga in a couple of chapters, which has been a divisive choice for a lot of people. However, all things considered, a short epilogue might be the best way to go for a wide variety of reasons, including how the story has been developed and the plot points that are left to deal with.

While some My Hero Academia fans might have liked a longer epilogue arc to deal with their favorite characters and give certain plot points the time to breathe (which is a valid argument), a quicker and more effective conclusion is a much better option. It will give a more effective closure to most character arcs and also mean that author Kohei Horikoshi won't be stretching the story in an unnecessary manner.

Why a short My Hero Academia epilogue is the best way to go for this arc?

It is true that some fans would have appreciated a longer epilogue arc to deal with several characters and plot points. However, this approach would probably take away a lot of momentum from the feeling of a conclusion.

The final war arc marks the ending of the main conflict against the likes of All For One and Tomura Shigaraki, so these last few chapters are going to give a proper final goodbye to Deku and his friends.

It is certain that fans would have liked to see other characters or plot points get more development in these final chapters, but the truth of the matter is that if they didn't get it before, they are not going to get it now. That applies to characters such as Eijiro Kirishima, Momo Yaoyorozu, or Tenya Iida, who all had roles to play in certain arcs but lost prominence as the series progressed.

There is another factor that author Kohei Horikoshi has been dealing with some health issues at certain points of the series, especially in recent years. Therefore, he is allowed to end the story on his own terms, which might include this shorter arc instead of a longer development like the one the final war arc had, clocking at almost two years of publication.

What could happen in the coming chapters?

Considering that the My Hero Academia epilogue is going to have a few chapters, there is a good chance that it will be heavily focused on the likes of Katsuki Bakugo, All Might, and Deku. While the case of Deku is fairly obvious because he is the protagonist, All Might is his mentor and idol, and Bakugo is his rival and best friend, so it makes sense that they are going to share another major moment before the series' conclusion.

It is also very likely that Ochaco Uraraka will get her own chapter, which could potentially be focused on her connection with Himiko Toga and her feelings for Deku. On the other hand, Horikoshi also introduced a "new character" who could be connected to Shigaraki in some shape or form, according to the fandom.

Final thoughts

A short My Hero Academia epilogue is probably the best course of action for the franchise as it keeps things straight to the point. Moreover, it allows Horikoshi to shed light on the most important elements and conclude the story as a whole.
