Naruto became the Seventh Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village before the Boruto series started and fulfilled his dream for which he worked hard. But strangely enough, was this the right decision on his part?
This question might come as strange, and even offensive for a part of the fandom that saw the protagonist make both ends meet for 720 episodes to work for his dream. So, why does this question still exist on the internet to this day?
This is due to a misconception spread by the fandom due to a single manga panel where the protagonist did explain how he shouldn't have become the Hokage but the reason behind it was that only to convince Kawaki that he is safe in the Hidden Leaf Village. One misunderstanding led to the misunderstanding of other fans, but in reality, the protagonist shouldn't have never second-guessed his dream.

Naruto Uzumaki becoming the Hokage before Boruto was the perfect decision
After making Kawaki a part of this team, the protagonist tried his best to make Kawaki feel at home. But as he didn't belong in the protagonist's home, he couldn't just settle down. One day, Kawaki pushed these feelings in front of the protagonist who picked him up and returned home where everyone was waiting to give him a welcome party.
After the welcome party, Kawaki made a face that indicated that he felt out of place in the protagonist's house, much less his village. The protagonist explained that Kawaki was living in the Hidden Leaf Village, where everyone is welcome no matter what their race or cast, and if this wasn't the case, there was no point in Naruto becoming the Hokage.
Unfortunately, some people didn't read the whole panel and took to the internet, stating that the protagonist regretted his decision to become the Hokage, indicating that he could have second-guessed his choice. But in reality, the truth is the opposite as stated above.
The protagonist worked hard since he was little to become a Hokage. He had no parents growing up and the only feeling on his mind was loneliness. So, he tried his best to become the leader of his village so that no one else had to suffer like he did.
He brought back Tsunade to the village because he wanted the village to continue thriving until he took over, he brought back Sasuke so that he could see how what happened to his brother would not be repeated when he became the Hokage, and there are no many other examples which signified that Naruto had to become the Hokage.
The protagonist second-guessing his choices before the Boruto series as to whether he could have opted to become the Hokage or not would have crumbled the whole plotline of the series and the character development of Naruto.
So, as obvious as the answer might be, the protagonist second-guessing his choice to become Hokage would have been a bad move, if it ever happened. Masashi Kishimoto created the protagonist to one day fulfil his dreams, which was what he indicated throughout the series: to never give up and follow your dreams.
