Out of the numerous elements that weren't unveiled in Jujutsu Kaisen, one of the biggest ones was why Ryomen Sukuna didn't utilize Megumi's domain expansion during his fight with Gojo Satoru. Chimera Shadow Garden, Megumi's domain expansion, was incomplete and the antagonist was capable enough to perfect it. So, why was this domain expansion wasn't utilized?

It is speculated that Sukuna just couldn't use it because a domain expansion utilized the inner world of a user. Everyone has a different inner world and Megumi's Chimera Shadow Garden represents his inner domain, just like Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine. This might be the reason why Sukuna was able to utilize the Ten Shadows Technique but not Megumi's domain expansion.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Exploring why Sukuna didn't use Chimera Shadow Garden

Fushigoro Megumi was one of the protagonists of Jujutsu Kaisen and also the head of the Zenin clan after Naobito died during the Shibuya arc. Even after becoming the head of his clan, his ambitions to return Tsumiki to his senses didn't falter. After trying his best to stop the Culling Games, Megumi was betrayed by his sister, whom Yorozu took over.

Not only this, but Sukuna followed the event by taking Megumi as his new host. To Megumi's despair, the first person the King of Curses declared his battle against was Tsumiki. To add further distress to Megumi, the King of Curses used his host's cursed technique to kill Tsumiki (Yorozu). Megumi went into depression after this, and the King of Curses continued wreaking havoc.

However, the strange thing about Sukuna taking over Megumi was the antagonist not utilizing his host's domain expansion, the Chimera Shadow Garden. When activated by Megumi, the domain was incomplete as it had no boundary, thus enveloping anyone in it (even comrades).

Sukuna, being a master of cursed energy manipulation, might have even perfected the domain (which would have been nothing short of a feast for the fans to witness). However, Sukuna just couldn't use Chimera Shadow Garden and the main reason behind it could be the innate domain of Megumi that led to the birth of this domain expansion.

An innate domain is a metaphysical space that is unique to every person and represents their soul and mind, just like the place where Yuji and Sukuna used to meet in their subconscious. As Megumi's innate domain (soul and mind) is different from every other character, this forbade Sukuna to use the same domain as his host.

This was the reason why he used his own domain, Malevolent Shrine, against Gojo as Megumi's host. Ten Shadows Technique was also Megumi's innate cursed technique, but as these techniques are solely driven through cursed energy, Sukuna was not only able to use it but also perfect it by controlling Mahoraga and morphing Agito.

Final thoughts

It is to no one's surprise that Sukuna was one of the most proficient users of the cursed technique, given how he was able to utilize Megumi's cursed technique in a way the sorcerers could never do.

Moreover, Sukuna's own cursed technique, Shrine, only centered around cutting things, and being one of the most overpowered ones in Jujutsu Kaisen is also insane. It is to the fans' despair that they could never witness a perfect Chimera Shadow Garden but if Sukuna had the opportunity to use it, he would have taken the domain to a whole other level.
