Demon Slayer season 4 is in full swing, with the latest episode focusing on the first stage of the Hashira Training. Tengen Uzui is taking care of the fundamentals of endurance, strength, and speed. Tanjiro Kamado received a fair amount of screen time in the recent episode and was clearly a cut above the rest compared to the other demon hunters.
There were plenty of interesting character interactions in the episode. The remaining demon hunters were shocked to see that he was going toe-to-toe with a former Hashira, something that only a select few can do.
This raised an interesting question among fans: Will Tanjiro become a Hashira? Tanjiro will not become a Hashira at the end of Demon Slayer season 4 and even at the end of the manga series. However, one must revisit the final arc of the manga to understand why he could never become a Hashira in the series.

Tanjiro does not become a Hashira in Demon Slayer season 4
Although Tanjiro Kamado is an incredibly talented swordsman, he does not become a Hashira in the Demon Slayer series. He is one of the biggest reasons other demon hunters are awakening their Demon Slayer Marks. He is also the only person in the Corps capable of utilizing the Sun Breathing Technique, which Yoriichi Tsukiguni created with the sole intention of taking down Kibutsuji Muzan.
In Demon Slayer season 4, Tanjiro participates in training to become stronger. However, the anime will not explore any significant feats this season.
That being said, Tanjiro’s contribution to defeating Muzan towards the end of the manga was paramount. He was able to access the memories of his ancestor, Sumiyoshi Kamado, and managed to replicate the Sun Breathing Techniques. He also found minor flaws and corrected them to make the technique more efficient.
When we assess Tanjiro's feats, we see that his skill set certainly puts him on the current level of Hashiras. He played a role in defeating Akaza, the Upper Moon 3 demon, and also went toe-to-toe with the Demon King himself. Logically, this should have made Tanjiro a Hashira. However, this wasn’t the case for one very simple reason.
The Demon Slayer Corps' goal was to kill Kibutsuji Muzan, and they had achieved it. The organization paid a hefty price since plenty of demon hunters died, including Gyomei, Muichiro, and more. However, the organization achieved its goal, and the Ubuyashiki family decided to disband the Corps. Sanemi and Giyu were summoned for a meeting, and the Ubuyashiki family informed them about the organization’s disbanding.
Hence, Tanjiro does not become a Hashira in the series. He fought alongside his comrades and defeated Muzan, and the organization was disbanded subsequently. Therefore, there was no need for demon hunters or Hashiras, which is why the protagonist didn’t obtain the prestigious title during the series.
