While the first half of Tower of God Season 2 has been generally underwhelming in the eyes of fans, many are hopeful that this changes with the start of the Workshop Battle Arc. The new cour will begin with the anime’s 14th episode on Sunday, October 6, 2024, and will see the anime get new theme songs to celebrate.
However, fans are primarily concerned with Tower of God Season 2’s pacing and specifically whether or not the series will fully adapt the Workshop Battle Arc in the time it has left. While there is no official answer to this question as of this article’s writing, the anime’s pacing relative to source material gives a good idea of what to expect in this regard.
Tower of God Season 2 will most likely cover the entirety of the Workshop Battle Arc
Based on what the anime’s Return of the Prince Arc adapted, it seems very likely that Tower of God Season 2 will cover the entire Workshop Battle Arc as seen in the manga. This is largely evidenced by the anime’s pace so far, which is almost perfectly halfway through the number of chapters needed to fully adapt the arc as of this article’s writing.
In the original manhwa’s second part, the Workshop Battle Arc ends officially in the 110th chapter, which concludes the section’s epilogue. The 13th episode of the anime, which is the most recent as of writing, adapted the very start of the manhwa’s 56th chapter inside of the second part. This timing works perfectly with the start of the anime’s adaptation of the arc in Episode 14, also marking the start of its second cour simultaneously.
This also serves to highlight how much slower paced the second season of the anime has been compared to the first. Whereas the first season adapted 78 chapters worth of material in 13 episodes, the second season has only adapted 55 full issues in that same stretch of runtime. This means the first season adapted six chapters per episode, whereas the second is adapting just over four chapters per episode.
Where the Workshop Battle Arc will likely end in the anime, explained
Likely the best place to end the Workshop Battle Arc in the Tower of God Season 2 anime is with the corresponding end of the arc in the manga, this being the 110th chapter of the second part. This is mainly due to the fact that the subsequent The Hell Train Arc is simply too large to reasonably end on any better point, spanning over 200 chapters and multiple long sub-arcs. The larger arc itself even opens with a sub-arc that spans nearly 40 chapters.
Contrarily, Chapter 110 of the manhwa’s second part provides a clean resolution to all of the main storylines the anime has built so far in Season 2. While there will still be some plotlines left hanging, these will be in the form of rightful setups for the third season as opposed to narratives that should’ve been contained to the second. There’s also a key Bam scene in Chapter 110 which would serve as a great thematic end point to the protagonist’s journey in Season 2.
With this in mind, the Workshop Battle Arc will likely end once it finishes adapting all source material corresponding to the manhwa’s original storyline of the same name. It provides a clean stopping point with enough cliffhangers left to convince fans to return for more, while also offering closure to the biggest plotlines seen in Season 2 so far.
