Wind Breaker chapter 148: Sakura finally understands the burden Umemiya is carrying and gives his all against Endo
Wind Breaker episode 148 was titled Do or Die. The chapter commenced with a monologue from Sakura where he told his story about how he arrived at Furin High to reach the top but as he had no ambition, he needed to work on himself. However, he had one ambition in his mind currently, to protect the town and its people from Endo and Takiishi.
He also understood Umemiya's words and declared the leader's words his resolve, which made him the person he was. Sakura then jumped towards Endo. Both fighters landed punches on each other's faces, and despite being fatally injured, they continued to fight.
Togame looked at Sakura's dedication and praised him. Hiragi joined in and claimed that Sakura was no longer the person he was a few days ago. He asked Sakura in his mind how far he was willing to go to become stronger. Unfortunately, Hiragi also noticed Endo was more excited than he had ever been.
After Sakura became despaired because he thought there was no way for him to win, Wind Breaker chapter 148 saw Endo calling Sakura out and urging him not to stop. Endo also noticed that other than Takiishi, no one had managed to make him feel this euphoric. Endo's interest in Sakura grew even more, and he started to think of ways to recruit Sakura into his group.
Out of nowhere, Sakura made a bet with Endo that if he won the match, Endo would leave Furin and never return. However, if Sakura lost, he would join Endo's side. The Furin students were surprised over hearing Sakura's words in Wind Breaker chapter 148, and before Nirei could call out Sakura, Endo shut him up and told Sakura that there would be no second thoughts on this bet.
Suo told Nirei to trust Sakura's intuition. Now that Furin's future was on the line, Sakura felt a pressure inside his heart and thought of Umemiya who was always feeling like this. Both fighters again jumped onto each other and Sakura thought to himself that as winning against Endo was nearly impossible, he would just try not to lose.
They both went all out and continued fighting. Sakura was now just trying to stand his ground and Endo also noticed this. So, the ex-Furin decided to do the same, and the battle became a fight of fists until one of them gave up. Fortunately, Endo fell to the ground and Sakura took the chance and mounted him.
Endo tried choking Sakura and thought of what would be Sakura's next move. Sakura thought to himself that if, by chance, he went down, he would take Endo down with him. Sakura then faked an act of fainting, which caused Endo to lose his grip on Sakura. Sakura took this chance and headbutted him. Sakura waited for Endo to pass out and after he did, Sakura also fainted due to exhaustion.
Final thoughts
With the battle between Sakura and Endo now concluded, the spotlight could now shift toward the roof of Furin High, where Umemiya and Takiishi are standing. Umemiya wanted to show Takiishi something, but as Umemiya's character goes, it could most likely be his vegetable garden.
However, it is not known whether the next chapter will showcase a change in Umemiya's personality, something that has not been showcased in the manga series yet.
