Wind Breaker chapter 166 was expected to see a heated conversation between Sugishita and Nirei, given how the former "kidnapped" the latter in the previous chapter's climax. This chapter saw the expected happen, as Sugishira engaged in a heated conversation with Nirei, which involved the protagonist, Sakura.

Sugishita continuously emphasized how he thought Sakura was cool in their previous battle against Noroshi. However, unlike others, Nirei analyzed Sugishita's feelings for Sakura and learned that he was jealous of the protagonist. However, he couldn't spell these words to Sugishita. Eventually, Nirei revealed this to Sugishita and the latter took it more maturely than expected.

Wind Breaker chapter 166, titled Thoughts Kept Inside, commenced with Nirei talking on the phone. Nirei told Suou and Sakura that he had a stomachache to hide the fact that Sugishita kidnapped him. After ending the call, Nirei told Sugishita that everything was fine, even though the latter was pissed off about something.

Funnily enough, Sugishita also stated that he was pissed, to which Nirei replied that it was already obvious. Wind Breaker chapter 166 saw Nirei ready to kneel to make Sugishita happy but the latter claimed that the person he was pissed about was Sakura. Sugishita was then trying to say something about the protagonist but he popped the head of a mannequin in his fury.

During all this, Nirei was confused as to what action made Sugishita angry about Sakura. Finally, Sugishita finally uttered that Sakura was cool. Surprisingly, Nirei's attention was diverted after Sugishita mentioned Sakura and Wind Breaker chapter 166 saw Nirei noting everything Sugishita mentioned about the protagonist.

In his mind, Nirei thought about the greatness of the protagonist, such that it was able to drive Sugishita insane. As expected, Sugishita was angry over Nirei going off into his own world and shouted to bring him back. Nirei then questioned the obvious as to why Sakura's coolness pissed Sugishita off. Sugishita grabbed his head and told him that this was what he wanted to know.

Wind Breaker chapter 166 then saw Nirei asking Sugishita more about the moment when the latter considered the protagonist cool. Sugishita revealed that the moment Sakura took the burden of witnessing Umemiya's final battle against Takiishi was the coolest the protagonist looked to him.

Nirei also complied and stated that everyone from Furin had given up hope about their victory against Noroshi. However, the efforts of an outsider, the protagonist, gave Furin the motivation to fight. Nirei deduced that the only motivation Sugishita had was to help Umemiya and as Sakura took this motivation away during the Noroshi battle, Sugishita felt jealous of the protagonist.

As expected, Nirei couldn't tell this straight-up to Sugishita so he remained silent while smiling at Sugishita. Yet again, Nirei's cheerfulness pissed Sugishita off, who grabbed Nirei by his head again and asked for an explanation. Wind Breaker chapter 166 then saw Nirei going into a battle with his consciousness as he wanted to reveal Sugishita's true feelings to him but was scared of getting hit.

Ultimately, after taking consent from Sugishita, Nirei shouted that Sugishita was pissed off with Sakura because he was jealous of the protagonist. Surprisingly, Sugishita didn't have a wild reaction to this claim. However, comically, this was because he didn't know what "jealous" meant.

So, Wind Breaker chapter 166 saw Nirei explaining to Sugishita the meaning of "jealous" with a simple example. Nirei then also revealed how Sugishita wanted to be in Sakura's shoes during the Noroshi war, which led to Sugishita getting envious of the protagonist.

Wind Breaker chapter 166 saw Sugishita questioning why he had to be jealous of Sakura (the only person he had a rivalry against). Wind Breaker chapter 166 ended with Nirei revealing that the answer was simply Sakura is Sakura (presumably because Sakura never gave up on others).
