Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 11 recap
The episode begins with Will Serfort explaining the 1/1000 rule, a credit system from the tower, which makes the Evil Grand Duke's actual worth 270,000, not 270. The boy then advises everyone to fall back and formulate a strategy since the enemy is beyond their capacity.
Wignall tries to suppress the monster with illusion spells, but they don't work. Meanwhile, the mages observe multiple high-ranked evil sentinels and Evil Guardians across the 11th floor. Will feels they must defeat the Evil Grand Duke to find an escape route.
Although Julius refuses to listen to Will's plan, Wignall and Lihanna fully trust the boy since he's the only one who has hope in his eyes. Eventually, Will convinces the ice mage that he's the key to his plan.
As per Will's strategy, Julius uses his Ars Weiss clones to uninterruptedly chant an advanced ice magic spell, while others keep the monster busy. Julius casts his most formidable ice magic, but it doesn't kill the Evil Grand Duke.
Lihanna then follows it up with a close-range blitz attack but is caught off-guard by an unexpected remote barrier. Will jumps forward to save the girl, but loses his goggles in the process. Without the goggles that Elfaria gave him, Will begins to lose hope.
Meanwhile, Wignall and Lihanna put their bodies on the line to buy their comrades time to escape. Sion tries hard to make himself believe that escaping is the best action. On the other hand, Will cowers in fear. He asks Sion to punch him hard to bring him back to his senses.
Infuriated, Sion asks Will if he should fear, especially when Wignall and Lihanna are almost dying to save them. The fire mage punches Will, which eventually helps him shake off his fear.
In an emotional outburst, Colette explains to Sion how Will has always been afraid, especially when he has to wield a sword and fight enemies at a close range and that people who hold wands and cast spells from afar won't understand Will's plight.
Will Serfort joins the battle and pinpoints the Evil Grand Duke's wings as its weakness. With Colette's help, he cuts off one of its wings. Will's courage and resilience charge up Sion Ulster, who demonstrates his strongest fire spell at the Evil Grand Duke.
However, the attack doesn't finish off the monsters. As the mages begin to lose hope, Rosty drops an ice shard from above, which Will Serfort picks up. He recalls a memory, where a mysterious woman entrusts an infant (Will) to a young man. She hopes the baby will bring the wand and sword together.
Wil Serfort finally realizes what he has to do. He tells Sion to fire a spell in his direction. Sion obliges and casts Ignis Rook, which Will absorbs with his sword. A mysterious power begins to surge through the boy, as he stands welding a sword covered in flames.
His eyes turn red and his movements become more agile than before. Without realizing it, he chants "Fully Charged: Ignis Wis" and delivers a devastating attack to eliminate the Grand Duke.
What to expect in Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 12? (speculative)
Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 12 is titled Wand and Sword. As indicated by the climax of the previous episode, the next episode will see the aftermath of the fight between Lihanna's party and the Grand Duke. As Will sliced the Duke into two pieces, the party might have won but there is still no telling whether they can escape the dungeon because everyone is mana-depleted.
However, as indicated by the preview synopsis, Lihanna's party is saved by the Old King's expeditionary force and they return to the academy. After returning, Will cannot forget the feeling of the move he used after absorbing Sion's mana, Ignis Wis, and trains to strengthen his powers. The episode will end with the start of the final graduation exam, which might continue in season 2 (if it is announced).
