Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4, titled "The Eve of the Grand Festival," came out on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 4:30 pm JST on TBS and its affiliated networks in Japan. The episode saw Will Serfort take Julius's challenge to enter the Grand Magic Festival after the latter humiliated the Dwarves.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4: Will Serfort's insecurities about Grand Magic Festival are revealed
Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4 began with the narrator revealing that a mage requires at least 7200 credits to advance to the upper institute and keep the dreams of becoming a Magia Vander alive. However, Will Serfort, who lacks magic, has only garnered 5405 credits thus far.
The narrative for Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4 then transitions to a flashback, where Will competes in a magic-related test with other students. The test involves defeating golems with magic.
While Will struggles to defeat the golems, other students, including Sion, Colette, Lihanna, and Wignall, effortlessly clear the test. Besides them, Julius Reinberg showcases amazing ice magic to defeat several golems at once. The mage boasts a whopping 10,048 credits to his name.
Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4 introduces Julius, Wagnall, and Lihanna as the three most prospective candidates to advance to the upper institute. Lihanna Owenzaus has 10,100 credits, while Wignall, the elven mage, accumulates 10,075 points.
According to Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4, a majority think the number of credits one earns reflects their abilities. Since Will Serfort doesn't have the required credits, he feels he needs to up his game. Meanwhile, Julius humiliates him and tells him to get out of his sight.
Back to the present, Colette adamantly tells Will that he needs to participate in the Grand Magic Festival, because trying to advance to the upper institute solely by banking on spellwork and praxis credits won't do.
She reminds him that there are cases of students getting scouted and making it to the tower without earning the required 7200 credits. According to Colette in Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4, The Grand Magic Festival is held once every two years at Rigarden Academy.
The event includes several contests and draws high mages from the Tower, who scout promising young talents. According to a general belief, most admission decisions are made at the event itself, since four of the five factions attend the festival.
Will reminded Colette that he doesn't have magic. However, the girl assures her that there are other ways, especially with the rumored "Watchers" scouting talents. She thinks Will can make a difference if he participates in the event.
Yet the boy reminds her about his abysmal performance in the 50th biannual festival, where he was humiliated. As such, he's insecure about challenging at the Grand Magic Festival.
Meanwhile, Colette and Will sense a barrier near the student's locker room. After breaking the barrier, they enter a hidden staircase, which leads them to a room where several students are seen gambling.
Shion is also present, observing the odds. He firmly tells Will and Colette that he is as good as Wignall and Lihanna. Following that, Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4 switches to the classroom, where Colette asks Will if he's free after the class, but the boy tells her he has a shift at Miss Gina's.
Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4: Will stands up for the Dwarves and accepts Julius Reinberg's challenge
The narrative for Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4 switches to Slumland Street, an alley that rings with the laughter of the Dwarves, who drunk their cares away. Will Serfort serves sumptuous food to the guests. Donnan, the restaurant's owner, thanks Will for his efforts.
He asks about the Grand Magic Festival and wonders whether he requires some workout sessions. Yet Will bashfully says that he isn't interested. Besides Will, Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4 shows his dorm mate, Rosty, working at the joint.
Will apologizes to Rosty for dragging him into it, but the boy says he doesn't mind as it's a fresh experience. Rosty asks Will whether he is sure about working for the Dwarves, especially with low pay. The boy assures him it's fine because he likes Donnan and the Dwarves.
He respects the Dwarves for their generosity. At that moment, Julius and a few friends visit the tavern since all the other places are closed. The mage laughs at Will after seeing him working at the tavern along with the Dwarves.
Julius humiliates the Dwarves, reminding them of their inferiority compared to the mages. He feels they are lucky to live in a country that is governed by Magic. Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4 reveals that dwarves are treated with contempt.
If any of them were to lay a finger on a mage, their entire race would suffer the consequences. As such, Donnan grits his teeth and takes in the abuses. However, Will Serfort retaliates. He subjugates Julius's friends and threatens him to take his words back. Will told Julius he has no right to sit and ridicule the Dwarves.
Given how Julius and his friends have acted, Will feels they are the actual "brutes" and "low lives." Will Serfort's words infuriate Julius, who demonstrates his ice magic to restrict the boy. He holds back just enough to ensure he doesn't kill Will.
Julius challenges Will to enter the Grand Magic Festival so that he can take his time to humiliate in front of an audience. Filled with rage, the boy accepts his challenge. Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 4 ends with Will Serfort resolving to win against Julius and have him apologize to Donnan and his friends.
