This has naturally put both fandoms into a heavy conflict, although most people tend to incline in favor of Bankai being more legendary, which makes a lot of sense given a variety of reasons.

It is true that Jujutsu Kaisen has been one of the most popular anime in recent years but Bleach is a cornerstone of 21st-century battle shonen, which has been influential for a wide variety of series, including the former. Moreover, this series is a part of several people's childhoods, thus giving the nature of Bankai a more memorable feeling since it has been going strong for more than two decades.

Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach fans discuss which signature ability is more iconic

Jujutsu Kaisen fans claim that Domain Expansion is a more distinguished move than Bankai, which has been strongly rejected by the anime community online on X. That makes a lot of sense when considering that the former has been a massive success in recent years. But the latter has a body of work that extends for decades and has been a mainstay of battle shonen for a long time.

It is also worth pointing out that author Gege Akutami has cited Tite Kubo as a major influence on his work. So, there is an argument to be made that Domain Expansion is inspired by Bankai. That would make sense when considering that both abilities say the general name first and then the specific title of each character's technique, so there is an obvious similarity there.

However, Bankai has been a significant part of many anime fans' childhood, so it has an edge over Domain Expansion. It is a benefit that the long-running series has over the newest ones. Perhaps, Jujutsu Kaisen is going to grow to the point of becoming more iconic but, as of this writing, that is certainly not the case.

A major argument that many fans of Bleach have brought up is the aforementioned fact that their favorite series influenced Jujutsu Kaisen and it serves as an example of how prominent the series is.

Moreover, it is easy to see the similarities between the two. Both series combine supernatural and urban elements of Japan and the approach to battle can be somewhat similar, although Gege Akutami also takes a lot from Hunter X Hunter.

Some fans have even mentioned how Bankai in Bleach simply sounds better and has a much more efficient vocal impact, although that is definitely up for interpretation. However, it suggests that the general perception in the anime community is that Domain Expansion is not very close to Bankai in terms of being iconic.
