Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen manga are experiencing a whirlwind of emotions following the manga's ending. The final chapter, released on September 30, has been met with loud criticism towards mangaka Gege Akutami, leading to a heated debate within the anime and manga community.
One major point of contention is the number of unanswered questions left after the conclusion of the series. Numerous readers believe that the manga left several plot points open. For the readers who have been following the series closely, this lack of resolution has been seemingly frustrating.
However, a portion of the fan base has come together to support Gege amid this controversy, highlighting the impact of the series and the creator's commitment. This sentiment is a reflection of a wider frustration with the often strict and demanding standards set for manga creators.

Jujutsu Kaisen fandom gets divided following the manga's controversial ending
Following Sukuna and Kenjaku’s defeat, Yuji and his friends retired to Jujutsu High in the final chapter, to recover from the battle. Nobara learned about her mother’s whereabouts, which was something she didn’t care about, and Megumi finally learned that Gojo had killed his father, which only made him laugh.
As for Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara as a trio, they were assigned a mission to deal with a Curse User. After doing so, Yuji remembered one of his final conversations with Gojo, where the latter said he wanted sorcerers to find new ways of dealing with problems. Yuji put that into action by telling the Curse User to reform and eventually join them. On that note, Yuji’s time in Jujutsu Kaisen came to a close.
Finally, Sukuna and Mahito made an appearance in Jujutsu Kaisen's last chapter, conversing in the afterlife. The former admits that he could have walked a different path, while Mahito reveals that he was seeking revenge for his persecution in the past. Sukuna also states that if he were to be reincarnated, he would mend his ways.
Following this conclusion, fans have been claiming that Akutami did not care about the characters, which resulted in an ending that was disappointing and dull. Moreover, they raised accusations stating Akutami was arrogant in his approach toward the final chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen, giving more importance to a swift conclusion rather than meaningful character arcs.
Fan reactions defending Gege
Fans defending Gege stated that a significant portion of the hate comes from fans of Gojo, who were dissatisfied with the character's conclusion. Others also said that the straightforward ending by Gege made sense.
"Most of what I seen were Gojo fans and girls hating on gege and wanting to take the character away from him his own character," one fan said.
"Jjk ending is not bad, a lot of complaint come from theories made by the fans not realize. And gojo revival thing is the worst part. Like why would gege revive him at the end anyway his story already complete." Another user commented.
Some fans strongly disagree with the wave of hate directed at Gege Akutami, arguing that the criticism is unfair, given the constraints he faced. They believe that Akutami didn’t have enough room or time to craft a more satisfying conclusion.
Others state that it’s perfectly natural for fans to feel disappointed and to voice their criticisms when a beloved series doesn’t end as they hoped, reminding them that there’s a line that should not be crossed.
"I disagree with all the hate coming towards gege, imo i feel like he didn't have enough room+time to fit in a better ending, maybe its like isayama, he might add extra panels for the volume's official release," one fan said.
"People can be disappointed and criticize him for the ending.... but they should not cross the line!" Another user commented.
This debate serves as a reminder to keep criticism focused on the work itself and not aim it toward the person behind it.
