Yakuza Fiancé episode 2 started with Yoshino avoiding Kirishima, who had been persistently following her. She recalled his unsettling past actions, including trying to force her into a brothel, and remained uncertain about his true intentions. Despite her attempts to focus on other things, Kirishima interrupts her, revealing they must meet the Miyama family.

At the Miyama residence, Yoshino grows uneasy when informed of the disappearance of the Akaza Enterprise President's daughter, Shiori, and that she must stay with Kirishima for safety. Over dinner, Kirishima handed Yoshino a photo of Shiori, speculating she might have been kidnapped or sold. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Kirishima’s carefree attitude frustrated Yoshino.

Later, she learned more about his violent past through a conversation with Inamori, one of Miyama’s men, revealing that Kirishima was deeply involved with the Yakuza from a young age. Disturbed by the details, Yoshino began to question her ability to handle him.

Yoshino spotted Shiori at a nightclub and informed Kirishima, who suggested they investigate. At the club, Kirishima swiftly incapacitated men who threatened them, revealing his brutal nature. Yoshino, although injured and shaken, helped Kirishima in the fight. Afterward, she struggled to reconcile her fear of Kirishima’s violence with her growing entanglement in his world.

Later, it was revealed that Shiori had been voluntarily hiding, which led to President Akaza's public resignation, the exile of his family, and Shiori being sent overseas.

Kirishima received ten million yen for assisting in locating Shiori, which he offered to Yoshino. She refused, leading to a lighthearted exchange about their past dealings. As they left to buy Yoshino a new hairdryer, they shared a brief moment of normalcy. The episode ended with a mysterious man resembling Kirishima leaving on a motorcycle after tailing both Yoshino and Kirishima.

Yakuza Fiancé episode 2, adapted by Studio Deen, significantly toned down the violent scenes and Kirishima's overall unsettling demeanor, which had been portrayed as much more ruthless in episode 1.

Although the pacing shifted from two chapters per episode to three, the episode faithfully adapted the manga, with the exception of the final scene. The scene featuring Kirishima and the mysterious stranger was a completely original addition to the anime.

Yoshino’s character, along with her demeanor and mannerisms, remained faithful to her manga counterpart, maintaining the ruthless image built up in episode 1. However, Kirishima's violent nature was slightly downplayed, leaning towards comic relief rather than a central aspect of his character.

While Studio Deen has garnered a poor reputation in recent years due to the subpar animation of the latter seasons of the Seven Deadly Sins anime, such issues have not been evident in Yakuza Fiancé. Although CGI has been used in some parts, most of the animation has remained faithful to the original manga, with an eerie resemblance to its distinctive art style.

Despite its setting being similar to that of Nisekoi, Yakuza Fiancé episode 2 made it clear that the story will focus more on the two main characters' underlying motivations and issues, with a more grounded tone, unlike other romance anime. The sound design and soundtrack used in the anime remain unremarkable, though this may improve in future episodes.

Final thoughts

Yakuza Fiancé episode 3 will be released on October 21, 2024, and will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll as part of its Fall 2024 lineup. Unlike episode 1, episode 2 changed the pacing and adapted chapters 3-5 of the manga. Fans who want to continue the story can start reading from chapter 6 for a seamless experience.
