Although the latter ended up being overpowered and cornered throughout the entire chapter, the main focus was on unveiling Yuji's character growth. The chapter's highlight was the conversation between Megumi and Yuji, which signified a fundamental shift in Yuji's mentality.
The conversation revealed that Yuji could no longer simply ask or force Megumi to continue living, especially now that he could understand how painful Megumi's life had become. In the process, Yuji became the only person who could understand the current Megumi.
While the chapter also featured Megumi taking his first action against Sukuna, many fans have speculated that this might be his last stand against the King of Curses.

Jujutsu Kaisen - Yuji's outgrows his savior complex during his farewell to Megumi

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 spoilers revealed a lot, including Yuji’s new outlook on life and the understanding he has developed of people and their struggles. Yuji was introduced to the audience as a carefree protagonist who pursues justice and is fixated on saving people.
Yuji has undergone drastic character growth, with his carefree nature from the beginning of the series almost completely forgotten due to the numerous tragedies he experienced.
However, his determination to save every single person persisted until the end. While this inherent nature might be one of his strengths, it also served as one of his biggest weaknesses.

Yuji's inability to save everyone led him to blame himself for their deaths. Junpei, Nanami, and Nobara’s deaths, which led to Yuji’s breakdown during the Shibuya Incident arc, were a precursor to his complete collapse after Sukuna took over Megumi.
Although it hasn't been directly stated, it's in character for Yuji to still blame himself for Megumi’s situation, especially after Megumi brought him into the Culling Games, having first asked Yuji to save him.
Chapter 266 revealed a further change in Yuji’s character as he admits his shortcomings, stating that he could not previously understand the difficult choices people make during challenging times.
Yuji acknowledges that his abnormal mental and physical fortitude might have contributed to his previous way of thinking.

However, he also recognizes that his time at Jujutsu High has made him understand the pain that people experience in life. Yuji then mentions how he cannot simply ask Megumi to continue living, especially after Megumi has lost everything he held dear.
While the Yuji from the beginning of the story would have tried to convince Megumi to keep living, the current Yuji can no longer force Megumi to do so, especially after learning about everything Megumi has lost.
Their entire conversation revolves around how Yuji and Megumi have become very understanding and respectful of each other.

Yuji decides to respect Megumi’s circumstances, elevating their relationship within the story to a level arguably higher than even Megumi and Gojo’s relationship, as Gojo might not have shown Megumi the same consideration that Yuji did.
Their interaction in chapter 266 ends with Yuji telling Megumi how he’ll miss him. Yuji and Megumi’s interaction in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 not only reveals Megumi’s current status within Sukuna but also highlights Yuji's much-needed character growth.
Yuji’s dialogue with Megumi shows that he has moved beyond his savior mentality and now has a more practical view of life.
Final thoughts
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 saw Megumi using his Ten Shadows technique to somehow hinder Sukuna in combat. While many fans took this as confirmation of Megumi's return, it is possible that Megumi might die alongside Sukuna, using what's left of his technique as a last stand against him.
The chapter ended with a panel showing a Sukuna finger being sealed in a remote location. Although nothing has been revealed about this finger, many fans have taken it as a potential plot point for Nobara's return.
Chapter 266 will be officially released on August 18, 2024.
