Yuji's back-up plan against Sukuna might involve his own finger, and Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 hints how

The alleged spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 266 revealed many things, including the peculiar appearance of Yuji's hands, which were revealed to be cursed tools. While some fans were busy theorizing whether the loss of these cursed tools would hinder Yuji's combat ability, many others noticed that Yuji's left hand was missing two fingers.

The chapter ended with the reveal of another Sukuna finger sealed away somewhere, leading fans to theorize that Yuji might have somehow transformed his own finger into one filled with Sukuna's essence.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266: Yuji might force Sukuna to be sealed into finger

The resonance between souls and the connection between them has been reiterated numerous times throughout the Sukuna fight. Yuji’s connection with the essence of souls, due to his proximity to Mahito and his own ability to target souls via his strikes, was fully revealed following speculations that his soul and mind are still somehow connected to Sukuna.

Although Sukuna condensed every aspect of his essence into one of Yuji’s fingers, which he then fed to Megumi to perform a body swap, Sukuna had simply spent too much time inside Yuji. Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 266 revealed that Yuji’s left hand was missing two fingers. Sukuna tore off the little finger during the body swap, but the missing ring finger hasn’t been mentioned or addressed at all.

This omission has led to the theory that the finger shown at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 266 is actually Yuji’s finger. Yuji has been described as a cursed object soaked entirely in Sukuna’s cursed energy, essentially making him an extension of Sukuna. Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 266 ended with the reveal of another, and possibly the last, Sukuna finger, the existence of which has been a significant underlying plot point since the beginning of the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight.

While the finger’s actual location was not confirmed, it was shown to be sealed with numerous ropes while suspended in the air. The peculiar staircase and architecture surrounding the finger suggest that it is likely one of Tengen’s barriers. Although Tengen has been completely incapacitated, it was already established that cursed techniques can persist even after death.

Sukuna has already absorbed 19 of his fingers, along with his old mummified body, to compensate for the missing 20th finger. It has already been confirmed that Yuji was an experiment by Kenjaku when he took over the body of Kaori Itadori and created Yuji by using Jin Itadori, who was the direct reincarnation of Sukuna’s brother.

There are already theories about Kenjaku imbuing Yuji with a Sukuna finger during his fetal stages to create the perfect vessel. Given that Kenjaku is further established as someone who has previously worked on the Death Painting Wombs, this is very much possible.

Yuji could have condensed the essence of Sukuna stored within him into his ring finger and sealed it away to function as a seal that would trap Sukuna’s soul after it is released from Megumi’s body. While the reason behind the finger resembling Sukuna’s own finger is not explained, it is possible that Yuji condensing all of Sukuna’s essence into his ring finger might have caused the transformation to occur.

Final Thoughts

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 266 also showed Megumi resurfacing and using his Ten Shadows technique to aid Yuji in his fight against Sukuna. Although many fans took this as a sign of Megumi's return, it might just be his final stand against Sukuna before perishing alongside him. A few other fans have also noted that the availability of one of Sukuna's fingers actually opens up the possibility of Nobara's return.
