Yuji's Domain Expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen may have been a part of Kenjaku's Merger plan all along

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264 was recently released and ended with the massive cliffhanger of Yuji Itadori using his Domain Expansion for the first time. While this has led to fans waiting for the next chapter to see how his Domain works, especially because Yuji and Sukuna are now in a train station, a new theory on Reddit suggests that it could be a part of Kenjaku's merger.

Kenjaku died while fighting Takaba and Yuta Okkotsu but his presence is still felt in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga through the merger and also his final words of his will being "passed". This led to a lot of people associating this comment with Yuji because he is Kenjaku's son, and this new theory could be pivotal in that regard to solving three main conflicts in the story at the moment.

New Jujutsu Kaisen theory suggests that Yuji's Domain could be connected to Kenjaku's merger

There is a theory on Reddit that suggests that Yuji Itadori's Domain Expansion, which was first introduced in the recent chapter 264 of the manga, is going to be connected somehow to Kenjaku's merger. That is because the centuries-old sorcerer happens to be Yuji's mother when he was in Kaori Itadori's body, and the former's birth was something the latter planned.

There is also the fact that Kenjaku, a few moments before dying at the hands of Yuta Okkotsu, mentioned that his will is going to be passed, which has not been elaborated upon thus far in the manga. Therefore, there is the possibility that Yuji's Domain, the peak of his development as a sorcerer, could be the key to unlocking the merger and, thus, fulfilling Kenjaku's vision.

Author Gege Akutami could be setting up a scenario where Yuji defeating Sukuna is what kickstarts the merger, thus completing Kenjaku's vision. This could also fit with a lot of people's theory that the merger is going to create a powerful Curse who is going to be the final enemy of the story.

It was revealed during the events of the Culling Games arc that Kenjaku was Yuji Itadori's mother, which was a tremendous shock for the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom. Akutami revealed through a flashback that he took over Kaori Itadori's body and birthed Yuji with a man named Jin Itadori, who was recently revealed to be the reincarnation of Ryomen Sukuna's twin brother.

Perhaps the most notorious and controversial aspect of their dynamic is that the manga never had these two characters addressing the topic. As of this writing, Yuji doesn't know that Kenjaku is his mother and isn't aware of his family connection to Sukuna, either, which is something that could prove to be divisive within the fandom if it isn't addressed before the manga ends.

Final thoughts

There is a good chance that the merger is going to take place in Jujutsu Kaisen and Yuji Itadori is going to have a role to play in that situation. In that regard, the possibility of his Domain Expansion playing a role is something that should be taken into account.
