With the release of the latest Jujutsu Kaisen spoilers earlier today, the series’ fanbase began celebrating Yuji Itadori and co’s confirmed victory against the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna. That led to Megumi Fushiguro’s safe return, leaving only the statuses of Hiromi Higuruma and Yuta Okkotsu up in the air in the wake of the Shinjuku Showdown.

The latest Jujutsu Kaisen spoilers also claim that the issue implies that while Sukuna may still have one finger left, the one finger itself isn’t enough to reincarnate from.

In turn, many are assuming that Yuji Itadori’s execution is officially canceled, with no need for the character to consume the last finger and die if Sukuna can no longer reincarnate.

However, this may not exactly be the case, with Kenjaku’s words about both Yuji and Sukuna from earlier on in Jujutsu Kaisen, specifically in chapter 203. Here, he claims that as long as both Yuji and Sukuna “are alive, the chain of curses will never end,” adding that Yuji is “the eye of the storm of a new age.”

With this in mind, there’s a chance that Yuji’s execution may be coming no matter what, foreshadowed by Kenjaku’s words here.

The final Sukuna finger’s existence in Jujutsu Kaisen could force Yuji to be a cog in the machine in the end

First, it’s worth establishing some parameters as to the interpretation of Kenjaku’s words in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 203.

Considering how long he has lived and how his definition of life and death may be warped from readers’, he would likely consider Sukuna’s final finger still existing as Sukuna being alive. At the very least, he would recognize that it would still attract curses to it, exhibiting some signs of life as a reincarnation object.

Secondly, Kenjaku is intimately familiar with both Sukuna and Yuji by nature of his relationship with either; in the Heian era, he was Sukuna’s contemporary and apparent frenemy, while he birthed the latter during his time in Kaori Itadori’s body.

Likewise, his words on the two’s existence continuing the chain of curses likely has significant credence given his level of knowledge of both of their origins, abilities, and more.

It sets the stage for Yuji eating Sukuna’s final finger and being executed in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271, which will be the series’ final issue releasing on Monday, September 30, 2024.

Yuji will likely be “forced” to do so by nature of wanting to save as many lives as possible, and recognizing that leaving both him and Sukuna alive is simply too dangerous to the world at large.

One recent development of Yuji’s which could prevent this from happening is his moving past the “cog in the machine” mentality he once had with respect to his purpose.

However, in this scenario, Yuji would play out his role as a cog in the machine while surrounded by his friends and loved ones. This motivation to honor his grandfather Wasuke’s wishes for him may outweigh this recent mental breakthrough.

In turn, it would set up an inversion to the first chapter which sees Yuji first tasked with ensuring he dies surrounded by loved ones. Another inversion opportunity also presents itself in the first chapter being named “Ryomen Sukuna,” with the last possibly being titled “Yuji Itadori.”

While all speculative, there is significant foreshadowing and narrative evidence to suggest that such an end could be awaiting Yuji come Monday, September 30.
