The latest release for author and illustrator Gege Akutami’s original Jujutsu Kaisen manga series is also one of its most harrowing, thanks to the choice Yuta Okkotsu makes. In chapter 261, fans saw Yuta use Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique to take over the dead body of Satoru Gojo, done in an effort to cement their victory over Ryomen Sukuna.
However, this latest choice of Yuta’s also came with some risks, which Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261 explicitly outlined. In a worst case scenario, Yuta will either die when his five minutes of using his own Copy Cursed Technique expire, or will die eventually sometime after. One other option which fans are concerned with is the reality that Yuta could lose his own Cursed Technique and be stuck in Gojo’s body until he dies.
That being said, this concern from Jujutsu Kaisen fans may be unwarranted when considering what Yuta has done by switching into Gojo’s body, and the recent reveal of a Cursed Technique. This is, of course, Ui Ui’s Cursed Technique, which has the ability to swap souls as highlighted in a recent issue of the series and could lead to both Yuta and Gojo’s salvations.
Jujutsu Kaisen has already revealed Yuta’s savior, and it could lead to Gojo’s return also
In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258, fans learned that Ui Ui’s Spatial Transference Cursed Technique could be used to target souls when given permission by the person themselves. Furthermore, this caveat also allows him to switch souls without changing the shapes of the bodies involved, posing no risk to those having their souls transferred. This was used during the one-month time-skip in order to let Yuji Itadori and others train up for the coming fight with Sukuna.
Yuta, meanwhile, has used Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique to switch both his brain and his soul into Satoru Gojo’s body. While one of the aforementioned risks to Yuta doing so was being forced to stay in Gojo’s body, Ui Ui’s Cursed Technique should circumvent this. In turn, as long as Yuta is able to survive long enough for Ui Ui to be able to use this Technique on him, then he should be able to return to his own body.
However, a separate Jujutsu Kaisen theory has speculated that Gojo could come back upon Yuta’s death via the return of his own soul. This is based on two Shibuya Incident arc scenes which saw the souls of both Suguru Geto and Toji Fushiguro achieve something similar. In other words, the series has seemingly already set up the idea that one’s soul can return to and control their body even in death, seemingly regardless of how much time has passed.
With this in mind, both Yuta and Gojo could be saved in a scenario which merges the best of both theories. Assuming Yuta survives the fight against Sukuna and is victorious, Ui Ui could first swap out Yuta’s soul from Gojo’s body back into his own. In turn, this could trigger Gojo’s soul to return to and take over his body once again. Even if Gojo’s soul returns before the swap, this shouldn’t be an issue, and would in reality only simplify matters.
However, this is all speculative as of this article’s writing, with neither of these theories being confirmed despite being grounded in relatively concrete evidence and facts. That being said, it seems likely that Akutami is building to at least Yuta’s salvation from Gojo’s body, if not both this and the return of Satoru Gojo.
