What's the story?
National level archer Gohela Boro, who has been suffering from a rare autoimmune disease, had her monetary needs fulfilled as the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports sanctioned her fund of Rs 2 lakh from the National Welfare Fund of Sportspersons.
Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore revealed via his Twitter account, that all of Boro's medical expenses will be taken care of by the ministry.
In case you didn't know...
Gohela Boro from Assam had won multiple gold medals on the national level. Her total tally currently stands at 72 medals, including 34 golds at various levels in her career.
The heart of the matter
In November 2016, she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and Anti Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies (ANCA) due to which her fingers and toes started decaying.
The government had funded her initial treatment, but that had reportedly come to an end soon. As she comes from a humble background, she wasn't able to afford her medicines and her condition was worsening.
After her bed-ridden photos were circulated on the social media, the government finally came to her aid. Finally, the archer from Assam was lent a helping hand from the government as the Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore tweeted on Monday that the Sports Ministry will take care of all her medical expenses.
What's next?
If Boro manages to get fit and start playing again, she has the potential to become one of the best in the world and win some medals at the top stage for the country.
Sportskeeda's take
It's a great gesture from the Sports Ministry to release the funds for the 21-year-old's medical treatment and we hope, they will take many more decisions like these in the future.
