The Indian women’s recurve team failed to produce any spark as they were completely outplayed by Italy in the bronze medal play-off at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Antalya on Sunday. The sixth-seeded Indian team comprising Deepika Kumari, Laishram Bombayla Devi and Laxmirani Majhi went down 1-5 (52-53, 51-53, 54-54) to the fifth seeds Italy which had the 2016 Indoor World Championships bronze medalist Claudia Mandia, the 2011 World Championships team gold medallist Guendalina Sartori apart from Lucilla Boari.

After losing the first set narrowly, India had a chance to level the contest. But poor scores of a 7 and two 8s cost India dearly as the Italians took a 2-0 lead.
Deepika Kumari has to quickly shake off the setback and come back for the gold medal match in mixed recurve competition in the evening. Besides that, India has an opportunity to add another medal as Atanu Das will be in action in the bronze medal contest in individual section later in the day.
