Rio Olympics 2016, Archery India: Bombayla Devi upsets World no.10 to make it to the pre-quarterfinals

The Indian kept her calm and trumped the World no.10

Bombayla Devi, after defeating Austria’s Laurence Baldauff in the round-of-64, trumped Chinese Taipei’s World no.10 Lin Shih-Chia 6-4 in the round of 32 of Women's individual event at the Rio Olympics 2016. She has now qualified for the pre-quarterfinals of the event.

The World no.10 Lin looked completely out of sorts in the match and Bombayla capitalised to win the match comfortably.

The 23-year-old Chinese Taipei archer started with a meagre 8 and the Indian followed it by a 10. Lin then managed just a 7 in her second shot and Bombayla followed it up with an 8. The pressure was on the World no.10 and she scored a 9, which meant Bombayla had to get a 7 to win the set and she scored a 9 to win the set 24-27 and gain a 2-0 lead.

Lin started the second set with another 8, and Bombayla replied with an 8 as well. The Taipei archer looked out of sorts as she got a 8 on her next shot and the Indian got a 9 to gain one point lead. Lin scored yet another 8 and Bombayla followed it up with a perfect 10 to take the set 24-27 as well.

The World no.10 started the third set with a 10 and Bombayla was only able to bag a 7. Lin scored yet another 10 and Bombayla got a 9, however, in the third shot the Taipei Archer scored a 7 and virtually sealed the set and gained two set points to decrease the deficit to 4-2.

In the fourth set, Lin scored a 7 on her first shot and Bombayla followed it up with a 10 to gain an early upper hand in the set. The Taipei archer then got a 9 , but the Indian did not give in to pressure and got a 9 herself. Lin scored a 10 in her final shot of the set and Bombayla needing an 8 to win the match, scored a 9 and took the match 6-2.
