Anna Cockrell was born on August 28, 1997, in San Ramon, California to Serena and Kieth Cockrell. Anna is the youngest child among the three. She hails from an athlete family as her father played football at Columbia University, and Ciera, her elder sister, is a volleyball player at Davidson College, her elder brother, Ross, is a cornerback who won a Super Bowl representing Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cockrell, in 2016 graduated from Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina. From her high school years, she competed in the interschool high school track and field program which was trained by Carol Lawrence. Anna had won the gold medal, in the women’s 400 metre hurdles event, with a self-best of 55.20s, at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. She also succeeded in conquering a gold medal in the women’s 4×100 meters relay event. In the 2019, Pan American Games, which was held between July 27 and August 11, 2019, at the Athletics Stadium in the Villa Deportiva Nacional Videna cluster, Lima, Peru, Anna won a gold medal in the 4×100 meter relay. She also won a silver in 400-meter hurdles in the women’s 400-meter hurdles event of the athletics events at the 2019 Pan American Games.
