Born June 8, 2002, Athing Mu is an American middle-distance runner. She made history as the youngest woman to hold both Olympic and world titles in an individual track and field event. At 19, Mu clinched the gold medal in the 800 meters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics surpassing the national record set by Ajeé Wilson in 2017 and setting a continental under-20 record. She secured a second gold medal in the women's 4 × 400 m relay.

In 2022, Mu became the 800 m World Champion marking the first time an American woman has won the world championship title in this event. She holds the world under-20 record for the women's indoor 800 meters and the world U20 best in the indoor 600 meters marking the third fastest-ever run indoors.
