The second and final day of the 3rd edition of the National Race Walking Championships saw Bahadur Rana win the Gold medal in the 50km walk at the Jawaharlal Nehru course on Sunday.
The 32-year-old clocked in a timing of 4:07:24 that was good enough to get him the yellow medal on the day, even as the time was a good 1 minute 25 seconds behind the Rio Olympic qualification mark.
Chandan Singh clinched the silver medal with a time of 4:09:50 while hometown boy Jitendra Singh won the bronze medal with an effort of 4:12:10. The former has already bettered the Rio qualification mark in the 20km category.
Out of the 33 participants in the race, only 9 managed to complete the race. Babu Bhai Panocha and a few others left the competition midway while some were disqualified after having received three warnings.
The junior competitions were also held on Sunday in the 10km walk category and in the Men’s event, Vikash Singh won gold with a timing of 44:32.50, Naveen won the silver with a time of 44:37.76 while Eknath Turamberker clinched bronze with a time of 44:55.67.
In the Women’s category, Neena K.T won the yellow medal with a time of 53:12.49, Bhawna Jat won the silver with a time of 53:27.79 while Priyanka Patel won the bronze, after clocking a timing of 53:32.95.
