Brazil stripped of anti-doping credentials

Rio de Janeiro, Nov 21 (IANS) Brazil's anti-doping authority has been stripped of its international credentials for "non-compliance", the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) said.

Azerbaijan and Indonesia were also struck off the list of WADA-approved nations, the Montreal-based WADA said on Twitter on Sunday.

No further information was given for the decision. But local media reports said the Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD) was penalised for its failure to establish an independent anti-doping sports tribunal, reports Xinhua.

Doping cases in Brazil are currently handled by state-tribunals, leading to concerns about inconsistent rulings.

Last week, WADA published a report in which it cited "serious failures" in anti-doping procedures during the Rio Olympics in August.
