Byrce Hoppel is an American middle-distance runner who is an expert in 800 meters. He attended Midland High School. During high school, he won the 2016 Texas 6A State Track & Field Championship and set the personal best in the 800-meter, 1600-meter, and 3-mile races.
Hoppel attended the University of Kansas for his college studies. During his university days, He won five-time All-American, two-time NCAA, and four-time Big 12 championships. In 2019, He competed unbeaten 21-race streak in indoor and outdoor NCAA 800m titles. Hoppel’s performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championship placed him among the fastest in NCAA history.
After his junior season in college, Hoppel decided to turn professional and signed with Adidas. He finished fourth at the Pan-American Championships and qualified for the 2019 World Championship where he finished fourth in the 800m final.
In 2020, he earned his first National title at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships. In 2021 at the Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, he finished third and qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. But could not make it to the Olympic final. He won multiple US titles and earned a bronze medal at the 2022 World Indoor Championships.
In 2024, Hoppel won the 800m at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow with a world-leading time of 1:44.92
