
Christopher Nilsen of Kansas City, Missouri, United States is showing off his pole vaulting skills in his second Olympics in Paris in 2024. During his high school career, he broke the high school record in pole vaulting with a clearance of 18-4 ¾. He also won the Missouri State titles in 2015 and 2016.
Christopher Nilsen then served as a member of the South Dakota Coyotes men’s team at the University of South and participated in both pole vaulting and track and field events. He was notable for breaking the NCAA indoor record in the pole vault with a clearance of 19 feet 5 ½ inches at the Nebraska tune-up. For his efforts, Nilsen was chosen as the USTFCCCA National Field Athlete of the Year for the 2019-20 season. He made his Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games in 2020 and earned a silver medal in the men’s pole vault event. He continued his winning ways by participating in the World Championships and earned three medals, including one silver and two bronze medals.
