Born on August 4, 1998, in Layton, Utah, Courtney Wayment-Smith has rapidly ascended the ranks of American track and field athletes. She is set to compete for Team USA in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Wayment’s journey to the Olympics began in high school where she was a standout athlete. She was named Gatorade Player of the Year and claimed three UHSAA state championships.
Wayment also played soccer during her high school years. She earned her a spot at BYU. She won four NCAA Division 1 championships, claiming titles in the 2021 Indoor 3000m, 2021 Distance Medley Relay (DMR), 2022 Indoor 5000m, and 2022 3000m steeplechase at BYU. She earned herself eight All-American honors cementing her legacy as one of BYU’s all-time greats. Wayment also set the BYU school record in the 3000m steeplechase by clocking in at 9:16.00 at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She was born to Mark and Becky Wayment. They both competed in cross country and track and field at Weber State University. Mark was a two-time All-American in the 3000m and was inducted into the Weber State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.
She graduated with a major in Exercise & Wellness. Wayment is married to Tanner Smith. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
