While studying at Troy Buchanan High School, she excelled in multiple sports. She was selected to the all-state first-team softball selection. Her talent was recognised by many colleges and universities, which offered her admission and scholarships in both softball and track and field. She chose to focus on her passion for hammer throw and took the track and field scholarship at Southern Illinois University.

While at Southern Illinois University, she was coached under coach James Craug Lambert. In 2014 and 2015, she secured back to back NCAA hammer throw titles, a feat not achieved by anyone since 2007. She set the national Collegiate record with a haul of 238-feet, 5 inches (72.66 meters) and became the collegian to surpass the 73-meter mark with a throw of 239-feet, 9-inches (73.09 meters).

In 2015, Price qualified for the World Championship in Beijing. The same year she secured the fourth-place finish at the Pan American Games. Her international breakthrough came at the 2015 NACAC Championships when she claimed a silver medal. In 2016, Price made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Tokyo Olympics. In 2019, Price won a historic victory at the 2019 World Championship in Doha, Qatar. She won the gold medal and became the first American woman to win a medal in any women's event at the world championships.

Beyond outdoor competitions in 2021, she etched her name in indoor track and field history by breaking the world record in the 25-pound weight throw with a distance of 85 feet, 4.5 inches (76.02 meters). Later that year at the 2021 US Olympic Trials, Price threw 80.31 meters (263 feet, 5 Inches). This was an American National Record and also qualified her for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Price's career was haunted by injuries like dislocated shoulder, broken scapula and torn muscles. She only has one kidney. Despite all that she continues her legacy in hammer throw. In 2023, Price won the bronze medal in women's hammer throw at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
